Learning to create art is about mastering the basics. From understanding color theory to choosing the right brush, these guides are designed to build a strong foundation for your creative journey.

Understanding primary and secondary colors is the first step in mastering color theory. This simple graphic explains the basics we teach our beginner students.

A study guide on how to draw grass. We break down the process into texture, technique, layers, and values to make it easy to learn.

This landscape study guide shows how to simplify shapes, create a value sketch, and use a color palette to build a realistic painting from a reference.

Choosing the right paint can be overwhelming. This series introduces five different types of art paint, explaining their unique properties and uses.

A look at acrylic colour. It is a versatile, quick-drying paint that can be used on almost any surface, making it great for beginners and experts alike.

An introduction to watercolour paint. We explain its translucent quality and how its fluidity can be used to create beautiful, transparent layers.

Learn about oil colour. Its slow-drying nature allows artists to blend colors and make changes, making it perfect for detailed and glossy finishes.

An explanation of gouache, an opaque watercolor. Unlike traditional watercolor, it does not let the white of the paper show through, creating a flat, matte finish.

A look at encaustic paint, a wax-based medium. It is highly durable and creates unique textures, best used on a firm, absorbent surface.

Understanding your tools is crucial. This post explains the uses of a flat brush, which is great for long strokes, blending, and covering large areas.

About Art Fundamentals Explained

When you start, it is tempting to jump straight to complex subjects, but we focus on the small details first. For instance, in our beginner sessions, we spend time just learning how to handle a flat brush or mix primary colors because if your grip and color ratio are correct, the rest of your painting falls into place. Whether you are learning in our Ghatkopar studio or Thane center, we emphasize these building blocks so you feel confident enough to handle any medium, from oils to watercolors.

Building Your Artistic Foundation

Art is not just about raw talent. It is about understanding your tools and the principles behind what you see. That is why our Art Fundamentals guides are popular with everyone from toddlers to seniors. We believe that once you understand the logic behind art, your creativity can flow without hesitation.

Understanding Color Theory

Understanding primary and secondary colors is non-negotiable. We do not just teach the color wheel; we teach you how to mix them. As I often tell my students, "isko merge acchi tarah se karo" (merge this properly). Getting your values and layers right is what separates a muddy painting from a vibrant masterpiece.

Choosing Your Medium

Every paint has a different personality. Here is a quick breakdown of what we teach:

  • Acrylics: Great for quick drying and layering. You can paint over your mistakes easily.
  • Watercolors: Perfect for fluid, transparent washes. It requires a gentle hand.
  • Oils: The classic choice for blending and slow, deliberate work. Excellent for portraits.
  • Gouache: Gives you that opaque, matte finish without the transparency of watercolor.
  • Encaustic: A unique wax-based medium for creating bold, durable textures.

Tools and Techniques

Do not underestimate your brushes. A fan brush behaves very differently than a round brush. We teach you exactly which tool to grab for specific textures—like using a fan brush for grass or a round brush for fine lines. Whether you join our foundation course or just pop in for a weekend workshop, we ensure you leave with more technical knowledge than you started with.
