Weapon Defense Training: Sticks and Knives
The street has no referee, and it often has weapons. I teach Filipino Martial Arts and Kali to help you understand weapon dynamics so you can effectively defend against them.
Here we are practicing stick fighting drills in the dojo. We use protective gear to train realistically, learning to defend with a weapon against another weapon.
A look into our Shinkali training camp with Tuhon E, the founder of Shinkali Japan. We cover everything from stick and knife defense to grading and testing.
My Edged and Impact Combatives training is designed to supplement your existing skills. We focus on defending against weapon attacks and using your environment to your advantage.
A glimpse of our outdoor weapons training. We practice various drills and scenarios to build reflexes and muscle memory for real-life encounters.
The stick is a tool to train your reactions for combat. Understanding weapon dynamics is crucial for effective self-defense, whether you are armed or unarmed.
Training in Shinkali during the UWMAF world championship. Even with limited time, we deepened our understanding of the art and all six of us were promoted.
Practicing knife forms with Sensei E. Repetition and focus are key to mastering the movements and making them second nature.
These are training blades we prepared for the International Blade Fight Federation (IBFF) introduction in Delhi. Each one is a tool for learning.
A closer look at the hand-painted training knives. The art on them reflects the spirit of the warrior.
Each training knife carries a message. "Strengthen faith in yourself," "To change, you have to invite chaos." These are philosophies we train with.
About Weapon Defense: Sticks & Knives
I don't believe in just showing you moves. In my sessions, we use custom-designed training sticks and blades to build real muscle memory under stress. You need to understand how a weapon works, its grip, and its movement, because that is the only way you will ever be able to defend yourself against one. When you train with the tool, you stop fearing it.
Martial arts is often treated as a sport, but I teach it as a survival skill. My system, Shinkali, combines elements of Filipino Martial Arts (Kali), Japanese Jujutsu, and street-style Krav Maga to address the reality of a physical confrontation. Whether you are dealing with a stick or a knife, the principle remains the same: you must control the distance and neutralize the threat immediately.
Why Train with Weapons?
Many students ask why I focus on weapons if they only want to learn unarmed self-defense. The answer is simple: if you don't know how a knife moves, you cannot stop it. My training focuses on:
- Weapon Anatomy: Understanding the range, angles of attack, and grips associated with blades and sticks.
- Stress Testing: We do not perform choreographed dances. We use pressure drills so your body reacts instinctively when adrenaline hits.
- Environment Adaptation: We train in the Bandra dojo and outdoors in Powai Forest Park, teaching you to use your surroundings, not just your hands, to gain an advantage.
Training for Reality
My classes are not for collecting belts or winning trophies. We focus on the Shinkali system, which is about practical application. We spend hours on repetition and pad work because, in a real scenario, you will not have time to think about a complex technique. You will only have time to react. If you are serious about becoming your own bodyguard, we will find a way to fit this training into your life, regardless of your fitness level or experience. Reach out, and let's get to work.

I’m Sensei H, and for 28 years, I’ve been both student and teacher. I don’t run a corporate gym; I run a place where we strip away the fluff to find what actually works when you’re standing in a parking lot or a dark street. My job is to make sure you walk away knowing how to protect yourself.
