Our approach to design extends beyond private residences. We create immersive commercial environments, evocative bar interiors, and artistic exhibitions that prioritize sensory experience over visual noise.

About Beyond the Home: Commercial & Art Spaces

In commercial projects like our work for the Ventura furniture showroom in Hyderabad, we avoid the conventional retail layout. We designed a transitional zone called the 'Palate Cleanser'—a narrow passage using mirrored walls and sculptural foam cones—to act as a sensory reset for visitors. It is an intentional move to shift the pace of the shopping experience, forcing the visitor to be present and observant rather than rushing through the floor.

Our commercial and exhibition practice operates on the same core principle as our residential work: the importance of storytelling. Whether we are designing a hospitality venue like the Jollygunj bar in Bangalore or curating an exhibition, we look for the emotional narrative that defines the space.

Spatial Storytelling in Hospitality

For the Jollygunj project, our goal was to evoke the nostalgia of old Calcutta. We utilized dramatic, high-contrast lighting and antique mirrors to create a moody, atmospheric entrance that feels transportive. The choice of flooring, with its intricate geometric patterns, was not just decorative but foundational to anchoring the space in a specific aesthetic history. We treat these commercial interiors as sets where the guest is an active participant in the story.

Immersive Exhibition Curation

'Precious Objects' was our answer to the idea of temporary design. We wanted to move away from static displays and create a space where visitors could slow down and reflect on the craftsmanship of everyday items. By curating a selection of art and design pieces, we transformed the HITEX exhibition hall in Hyderabad into a reflective experience.

Our Process

We bring a residential level of detail to commercial and art spaces. This includes:

  • Sensory Design: Using materials like foam, brass, and textured stone to manipulate how a space feels and sounds.
  • Transition Planning: Designing movement paths that manage energy and focus.
  • Bespoke Fabrication: Working with artisans to ensure every retail display or bar unit serves both a functional and an aesthetic purpose.

We collaborate with architects and brand owners to ensure the design remains true to their vision while pushing into territory that feels unexpected and memorable.

We are Farah and Dhaval, the founders of FADD Studio. Our practice is built on the belief that design should provoke thought and feeling, whether we are building a private sanctuary or a public commercial space. We prefer restraint over volume, focusing our energy on textures, lighting, and the way a person moves through a room.
