Your skin behaves differently from day to night. Stop overcomplicating it with 10-step rituals that do more harm than good. Here is how to build an effective, science-backed plan that works for you, not against you.

You don't need a 10-step routine for great skin. In fact, you can change your skin forever with just 60 seconds every morning. A complicated routine can often do more harm than good.

Most people damage their skin by overwashing, using too many products, or skipping the most important step: sunscreen. My 1-minute morning routine is dermatologist-approved and works for all skin types by focusing on the essentials.

Step 1 of the 60-second routine takes just 10 seconds. Cleanse gently with a mild, non-stripping cleanser. Your skin should feel soft after washing, not tight. Over-cleansing is a major cause of dullness and breakouts.

Step 4 is applying moisturizer, which takes another 10 seconds. Even if you have oily skin, you need this. A lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer strengthens your skin barrier and prevents irritation.

Your morning skincare routine has one primary goal: defense. It should focus on protecting your skin from sun damage and pollution, preventing dehydration, and keeping it calm throughout the day.

A simple and effective AM routine should focus on four key steps. Gentle cleansing, hydration, antioxidant protection, and finally, the most important step of all, sunscreen.

At night, your skin's goals are completely different. This is when it works to repair damage from the day, build new collagen, restore moisture, and heal inflammation. Your PM routine should support this natural healing process.

Your PM routine should focus on removing dirt and sunscreen from the day, providing deep hydration, applying targeted treatment products for your concerns, and supporting barrier repair. Nighttime skincare is all about healing.

If you don't change your skincare from day to night, your routine is only 50% effective. You are missing the opportunity to support your skin's natural defense and repair cycles.

People often ask for my personal skincare regime, and it's actually very simple. In the morning, I cleanse, apply a Vitamin C serum, moisturize, and use sunscreen. My nighttime routine includes rotating actives like retinol based on my skin's needs.

About Smart Skincare Routines

You do not need expensive products or endless steps to see real changes. I teach a 60-second morning routine that focuses on three non-negotiables: gentle cleansing, hydration, and protection. Most people I see have damaged their skin barrier by over-cleansing or using too many actives at once. Before you add another serum to your shelf, let’s audit what you are currently using and ensure your morning defense and nighttime repair cycles are properly supported.
