Dermatology Expert Talks: Science-Backed Skin and Hair Advice
The world of skincare is full of conflicting advice and viral trends. Here is a look at my work beyond the clinic, where I break down the science of skin and hair health with fellow experts to help you get the truth.
I had a wonderful time at the Sebamed Skin Science Summit, discussing the crucial role of the skin's microbiome in its overall health. It's always great to connect with fellow experts and dive deep into the science of skincare.
I was honored to be a panelist for this discussion on skin, hair, and nail wellness with my esteemed colleagues. We covered everything from nutrition and supplements to lifestyle habits, reinforcing that true health is reflected in our skin and hair.
In this podcast, I explain why skincare is so essential in today's world of pollution and climate change. The sun's UVA rays cause aging and UVB rays cause burning, which is why I believe sunscreen is a must for everyone to prevent long-term damage.
A common question is whether you need a separate sunscreen for your body. For large areas, I recommend sunscreen sprays. They are easy to apply evenly without getting your hands messy and provide intense protection against both UVA and UVB rays.
With childhood obesity on the rise, it's crucial to talk about diet. I advise a simple approach: focus on adding good things like nuts and vegetables from Monday to Friday, and allow for junk food on the weekends. It's a balanced protocol that works.
Patients often come to me wanting to look like a certain celebrity they saw on Instagram. While I understand idolizing someone, it's important to remember that filters create an unrealistic standard of beauty. I love the trend of celebs showing their real, imperfect skin.
About this collection
When I sit on these panels, the most frequent question I get isn't about the latest expensive cream. It is about why the basics, like consistent sunscreen application or simple lifestyle habits, are so often ignored. Log kya dhundte hain? (What do people look for?) Magic. But the real breakthrough usually happens when we stop over-complicating the routine and focus on what the skin actually needs.
The dermatology space is filled with noise. Between viral Instagram trends, celebrity-promoted products, and conflicting advice from influencers, it is easy to feel lost. My work on platforms like the Sebamed Skin Science Summit and various industry podcasts isn't just about sharing opinions. It is about shifting the narrative toward evidence-based practice.
Why Science Matters More Than Trends
When I discuss skin health on public forums, my goal is always to move the conversation away from the product label and toward the physiology of the skin. Whether we are talking about the role of the microbiome, the necessity of sunscreen in a changing climate, or why your diet is the primary driver of hair health, the science remains constant. Products change, but biology does not.
Moving Beyond the Surface
Many patients arrive at my Goregaon clinic wanting to fix surface-level issues with quick fixes. Through these discussions, I try to explain that acne, hair thinning, and pigmentation are often symptoms of internal triggers—gut health, hormonal shifts, or nutritional deficiencies. If you are only treating the symptoms with the latest 'miracle' serum, you are missing the root cause.
My Approach to Advice
I believe in de-influencing. If a product or treatment doesn't have scientific backing, I won't recommend it, regardless of how popular it is online. If you are tired of the marketing hype and want a clear, logic-based roadmap for your skin and hair, my practice is built to provide exactly that. No drama, no false promises, just dermatological health built from the inside out.
