My classes are a partnership where curiosity is key. Whether you are a child finding your rhythm or an adult returning to dance, we explore Bharatanatyam through both in-studio sessions in Gurgaon and online learning.

Teaching the foundational 'tattadavu' sitting posture to my youngest students. We focus on correct posture and alignment from the very beginning, ensuring a strong base for their dance education in a gentle and encouraging way.

Two young students listen with rapt attention during our Vijayadashami puja. This ceremony, known as Vidyarambham, marks an auspicious beginning to their journey in learning the arts, and we honor these traditions as part of our curriculum.

A glimpse into a rehearsal with my junior students. Here, an older student leads the younger ones, demonstrating how we foster a sense of mentorship and shared learning within the class. We are practicing hand gestures, or 'hastas', for a storytelling piece.

This is my student Twisha performing a piece on the goddess Durga. She learns through a mix of in-studio and online classes, showcasing how our hybrid model allows for consistent progress and dedicated practice regardless of location.

A proud moment with my students of various ages after a performance. It is wonderful to see them in full 'aharya' (costume and makeup), ready to share their hard work and artistry with an audience.

A happy, relaxed moment with participants from an adult workshop. My classes for adults are a judgment-free zone, perfect for those looking to reconnect with dance or explore a new passion.

A discussion during a workshop for adult learners. Beyond just steps, we engage in conversations about the history, stories, and meaning behind the dance, making the learning process an intellectual and creative exchange.

A quiet moment of offering prayers with a young student during our Vidyarambham ceremony. I believe in instilling a sense of reverence and mindfulness in my students as they begin their artistic journey.

Demonstrating the basic 'namaskaram' or salutation that begins and ends every Bharatanatyam session. This sequence is a mark of respect to the divine, the guru, and the audience, and is one of the first things every student learns.

About The Learning Space: Classes for All Ages

I teach the Thanjavur style passed down from my Guru, Dr. Saroja Vaidyanathan, but I do not believe in rote learning. In every session—whether you join me in my Gurgaon studio or via Zoom—we balance rigorous technique like adavus and sollukattu with conversations about the mythology and history behind the movements.
