Kathak Classes for Kids in West Delhi
We teach children the discipline and rhythm of Kathak, using live tabla and guided practice to build confidence from the very first step.
An unfiltered look at a one-on-one Kathak session. I'm guiding this young student through the 'bols' (rhythmic syllables) on the tabla as she practices her footwork.
Young students learning basic Kathak postures and hand gestures. We start with the fundamentals to build a strong base in this classical Indian dance form.
A student practices her 'chakkars' (spins) to the rhythm of the tabla. Learning with live music is essential for understanding the connection between dance and rhythm in Kathak.
Our Kathak classes for kids focus on building grace, discipline, and a love for storytelling through dance.
About this collection
In my studio, we do not just watch videos and copy moves. We use live tabla to learn Kathak because hearing the rhythmic syllables, or 'bols,' is the only way to truly understand tatkar. I sit right there with them, tapping the beat, correcting their posture, and ensuring they feel the rhythm in their feet before they even attempt a spin.
Kathak is about more than just choreography; it is a discipline that helps kids develop balance, posture, and intense focus. In our Paschim Vihar studio, I focus on the basics of nritta and nritya to build a foundation that lasts.
Why we start early
When kids learn Kathak, they are not just dancing. They are learning to count, understand complex beats, and coordinate their bodies in ways that build long-term grace and physical discipline. My goal is to build strong, confident little dancers who understand the taal intuitively.
The AGMI way
We do not skip the foundational work. We do the repetitive footwork, we work on hand gestures, and we ensure the alignment is correct before moving to speed. This might sound strict, but it is how we ensure they grow without injury or bad habits. My classes are held on professional sprung wooden floors to protect their growing joints during those energetic spins and jumps.
What you get
- Live accompaniment: We often practice with live tabla, not just recorded tracks.
- Small groups: I limit batch sizes to 8-12 students so I can check every child’s footwork individually.
- Progress feedback: You get monthly video updates so you can see exactly how your child is improving.
