Featured Rescues: Large Animal Sanctuary and Rehabilitation
We take in animals who were once exploited or injured, and give them a place where they never have to work again. This is their second chance at a peaceful life.
This is what our work is all about. We take animals who were exploited and give them a life where they never have to work again. They are free from fear, surrounded by loving humans, and can finally just be themselves.
Meet Manohar. He came to us as a calf after being the victim of a hit and run accident. His story is a harsh reminder of the dangers these animals face, and it’s why our trauma recovery work is so critical.
These donkeys spent their lives carrying heavy loads, often in pain. At our sanctuary, they live without chains, without burdens, and without suffering. This is the retirement every working animal deserves.
Passive adoption is how you can give an animal a life of safety and care. It’s more than just money; it’s a promise that they will never live in fear or be used for profit again.
A simple pleasure. We provide salt licks and nutritious fodder to ensure our residents are not just surviving, but thriving. Seeing them happy and healthy is our greatest reward.
Our sanctuary comes to life with the help of volunteers. Here, a team from Goldman Sachs spends the day grooming, feeding, and giving much needed affection to our large animal rescues.
We ask people to see animals from a different perspective. What if we saw them not as machines built for profit, but as sentient beings who feel joy, pain, and love, just like us?
About this collection
Life here is about undoing years of trauma. Whether it is a calf surviving a road accident or a retired horse learning to graze without a bit in its mouth, our sanctuary is where animals finally learn that they do not have to work to deserve kindness. Every resident here is not a machine for profit, but a living being with a story.
At CUPA’s Large Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre (LARRC) in Gnana Bharathi, we aren't just housing animals; we are providing a forever ghar for over 120 residents. Many arrived here broken, either physically from accidents or mentally from a lifetime of heavy labor and neglect.
Our daily routine revolves entirely around their recovery and comfort. We provide specialized fracture treatment, daily joint supplements for our geriatric residents, and most importantly, the freedom to form natural herds. You will not see chains here. Instead, you see cows, donkeys, and horses grazing freely, receiving daily grooming, and enjoying nutritious fodder.
We rely on the kindness of our Bangalore community to keep this sanctuary running. Through passive adoption, you can sponsor the entire diet and medical needs of one animal. It is a direct, transparent way to ensure that for the rest of their lives, they never have to carry a load or fear a human again. If you have a few hours to spare, we also welcome families and corporate teams to join us for a half-day of volunteering, where you can help with everything from prepping bran mash to brushing our residents. Your time and support are the only reason we can afford the medical care and food they need to thrive.
Cupa
We are CUPA, and for over 34 years, we have been the voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. We aren't a facility that just stores animals; we are a team of vets and volunteers actively working to undo the damage caused by cruelty. Every animal at our sanctuary is family, and every life we touch proves that compassion combined with action changes everything.
