Featured Architectural Projects and Structural Transformations
A selection of our most significant work, documenting the intersection of bold structural engineering, material honesty, and spatial clarity.
A complete facade transformation, this residence in Hyderabad now features a tropical modern aesthetic. We introduced strong linear elements, including cantilevered roofs and pergolas, to redefine its form and relationship with the surrounding landscape.
The original state of the Hyderabad villa, a conventional structure that served as the foundation for our comprehensive redesign. This image represents the starting point of our architectural intervention.
This 24-foot cantilever is a testament to our expertise in structural engineering. The floating cuboidal volume of the Long House creates a dramatic architectural statement while housing a private living space with an uninterrupted connection to the outdoors.
The completed facade of the Timber Edge project, where we transformed a rigid concrete shell into a dynamic contemporary home. The design layers timber, concrete, and glass to create a visually textured and modern elevation.
The original concrete frame of the Timber Edge project before our architectural intervention. This raw structure provided the canvas for a complete reimagining of the home's identity, both inside and out.
This unique cantilevered staircase is suspended from a floating concrete wall, serving as a sculptural centerpiece. The design combines metal and wood, creating a gravity-defying feature that is both a functional staircase and a work of art.
A dynamic view of the floating staircase at our Timber Edge project. The video showcases the lightness of the structure and the interplay of materials, demonstrating how functional elements can become central to the home's design narrative.
About this collection
Our process for these projects begins with an architectural intervention that moves beyond simple aesthetics. We prioritize stripping structures to their raw form to address structural constraints, such as adding cantilevered elements or reconfiguring floor plates to optimize natural light. Each project serves as a practical study in how to manipulate volume and material to create a seamless indoor-outdoor experience.
Architectural Intervention
We approach renovation as a surgical process. Rather than masking existing structures, we deconstruct them to understand their inherent potential. Whether it is transforming a rigid concrete frame into a modern residence like our Timber Edge project or introducing a 24-foot cantilever to create column-free living spaces, our goal is to improve the building's physical performance.
Materiality and Light
Our material palette is intentionally restrained. We utilize exposed concrete, natural stone, and timber to provide texture and thermal mass. This is not for decorative purposes, but to define the building's character. By introducing skylights, courtyards, and floor-to-ceiling glass, we ensure that the interiors remain connected to the exterior landscape, blurring the boundary between the two.
Structural Engineering
Innovation in residential design requires a deep understanding of load-bearing systems. We frequently collaborate on complex structural solutions, including the use of floating staircases and cantilevered volumes. This technical rigor ensures that bold architectural moves, such as dramatic roof extensions or floating balconies, remain structurally sound while fulfilling the client's vision for open, expansive living.
Design Philosophy
Our work across India, from Bengaluru to Hyderabad, reflects a consistent pursuit of tropical modernism. We design spaces that respond to the local climate, ensuring passive cooling and abundant daylight. Each project is documented from concept to completion, providing a comprehensive narrative of the transformation from a conventional site to a modern architectural statement.
Crest Architects
We are Vikas and Vishwas. We founded Crest Architects in Bengaluru to create spaces that breathe, using concrete and timber to knit the indoors with the out. Our practice is a constant experiment in how design can reshape a home’s relationship with its environment.
