Surreal Illustration & Narrative Design
A deep dive into the essence of feminine existence, visualizing introspection through surreal, nature-inspired patterns and emotive digital illustrations.
My award-winning illustration 'Bioluminescence I,' which visualizes the inner light and complex ecosystems within the feminine form. This piece was recognized by Creative Quarterly journal.
This artwork, also an award winner from my thesis, depicts the connection between the female body and plant-like vascular systems, suggesting a deep, organic link to the natural world.
'Anthurium Empresses,' a piece from my thesis that transforms women into regal, flower-like figures. It explores themes of blooming, strength, and the velvet-like texture of both petals and emotion.
A full view of the 'Anthurium Empresses,' showcasing the trio of figures as a powerful, unified presence in a lush, surreal environment.
Titled 'In Bloom,' this illustration from my thesis series portrays an introspective figure emerging from a floral structure, symbolizing personal growth and the protective nature of introversion.
'Self-preservation,' a piece where a feminine figure is nestled within a thorny, pinecone-like plant. This illustration is a visual metaphor for setting boundaries and protecting one's inner self.
The black and white ink version of 'Self-preservation,' highlighting the intricate line work and the stark contrast between the protective thorns and the serene figure within.
The initial blue-pencil sketch for 'Self-preservation.' This shows the foundational drawing and conceptualization before the final digital rendering, offering a peek into my creative process.
A clean digital version of 'Bioluminescence I,' focusing on the glowing, surreal anatomy and the connection between the human body and deep-sea life.
The 'Bioluminescence I' illustration presented in an oval format, reminiscent of a vintage portrait or specimen display, blending scientific observation with surrealism.
About The Nature of Being: Womanhood & Surrealism
I do not just create images; I map emotional landscapes. Every piece in this collection begins as a tactile ink sketch or sketchbook study, which I later translate into digital ecosystems. If you are looking for art that captures a specific mood, like transformation or personal boundaries, we start by sketching that narrative together before I finalize the textures and colors.
The Nature of Being series is my visual exploration of feminine existence, drawing connections between biological forms and the human experience. When I approach an illustration, I think of it as an emotional ecosystem. Whether I am drawing a figure emerging from floral structures or exploring boundaries through thorny, plant-like imagery, the goal is to visualize what is happening beneath the surface.
My process is hybrid. I find that starting with analog tools—ink, brush pens, and gouache—allows me to capture a raw, unpolished energy that digital tools sometimes miss. Once the core narrative is set in my sketchbook, I move to digital rendering to layer in the vibrant, glowing colors and surreal textures that give these pieces their characteristic luminescent feel.
If you are looking for custom art, we can work together to translate your story into this style. Whether it is an editorial illustration that needs to communicate a complex theme or a personal portrait exploring a specific phase of your life, I involve you in the process from the first rough sketch to the final polish. I work primarily in high-resolution raster files, ensuring that your final piece is ready for everything from digital features to high-quality archival prints.
