Surreal Portraits for Music & Media
I create narrative-driven portraits that capture the essence of your music and brand. Whether it is for editorial features or album covers, I blend surrealism with your unique vibe to tell a deeper story.
The final portrait of musician Damon Locks for Bandcamp Weekly. The artwork is filled with patterns and symbols that reflect his work with the Black Monument Ensemble.
The Damon Locks portrait as it was featured on the Bandcamp Weekly radio show page.
A vibrant, psychedelic portrait of musician Seun Kuti for a Bandcamp Weekly feature. I experimented with a new style here, using fluid, organic shapes to frame the artist.
A portrait of the talented Esperanza Spalding for Bandcamp Weekly, surrounded by surreal, floating flora that hints at the organic nature of her music.
A patterned version of the Esperanza Spalding portrait, showing how a single illustration can be adapted for different visual contexts.

A triptych portrait of Brazilian jazz pianist Amaro Freitas for Bandcamp Weekly, capturing the intensity and introspection of his music.
An alternate version of the Amaro Freitas portrait, framed by a glowing circular element that adds to the piece's hypnotic feel.
A portrait of musician Jamie Finlay for Bandcamp, using geometric shapes and a warm, glowing color palette to create a sense of retro-futurism.
This portrait of Rogê for Bandcamp Weekly uses repetition and a target-like background to create a dynamic, pop-art feel.
About Portraits for Music & Media
When I work on music portraits, I don't just trace a reference or focus on likeness. I listen to your sound first to find the "emotional ecosystem" beneath your persona. This process ensures the illustration feels like a genuine extension of your music, resulting in a piece that functions as both a portrait and a conceptual visual landscape.
How We Collaborate
Every project starts with a conversation about the mood, the sound, and the story you want to tell. Because I work both digitally and traditionally, we can decide on a texture—whether that's the grain of color pencils, the smoothness of gouache, or purely digital vector-ready lines.
My Process
- Discovery: We discuss your visual direction and I dig into the themes you want to explore.
- Concept Sketches: I provide 2-3 rough conceptual directions. This ensures we are aligned on the narrative and composition before I commit to the final render.
- Refinement: For editorial and commercial pieces, I include a round of color exploration to make sure the palette hits the right emotional note.
- Final Delivery: You receive high-resolution files tailored to your output needs—whether that is print-ready CMYK for vinyl sleeves or RGB for web and social media.
Technical Scope
I design with specific output in mind. If you need spot illustrations for articles, web headers for newsletters, or high-density, ultra-high-resolution art for physical album covers, I deliver the files in formats that make your designer's life easy—typically layered PSDs or high-res PNGs/TIFFs. I specialize in conceptual metaphors, so if you are trying to explain a complex topic, a new musical direction, or an abstract feeling, I can translate that into an image that sticks.
