About Awards & Press
Being selected by juries like American Illustration and Creative Quarterly is not just about the recognition; it validates the moments where my exploration of womanhood and science truly resonates with a wider audience. Whether it is an editorial spot for The New York Times or a feature in Uppercase magazine, these placements represent the ongoing narrative power I aim for in every illustration.
Receiving recognition from platforms like Booooooom, Creative Boom, and American Illustration serves as a reminder of why I started this practice. It is a humbling experience to see work that began in my sketchbook or as part of my graduate thesis, 'The Nature of Being,' reach a global stage.
Why These Features Matter
Each feature, whether it is a full spread in Uppercase magazine or a spotlight on Creative Boom, offers a window into my creative process. These publications do not just showcase the final image; they discuss the concepts, the 'grey areas' of societal expectation, and the technical choices—like moving from gouache to digital layers—that define my aesthetic.
From Thesis to Publication
Many of the works showcased here began as intense, personal explorations during my MFA at MICA. Seeing pieces like 'Nooscapes' or my 'Halloween Clowns' exhibition work find a home in industry annuals confirms that my focus on narrative-driven, surreal feminine art connects with viewers beyond my immediate circle.
Collaborative Recognition
I am particularly grateful for the editorial commissions that have led to these awards. Collaborating with art directors at publications like The New York Times and Bandcamp allowed me to take my style—which is often introspective—and apply it to broader, dynamic concepts. It is this balance between personal storytelling and the practical demands of commercial illustration that I bring to every new project.
