Editorial & Commercial Illustration Commissions
I create narrative-driven illustrations that translate complex concepts into visuals for publications, brands, and campaigns.
My debut illustration for The New York Times Opinion section. This piece explores sociogenomics, depicting the interdependent relationship between nature and nurture as a glowing DNA-like structure.
The spot illustration for the same New York Times article, showing a flower's stem intertwined like a DNA helix. This smaller piece complements the main artwork and reinforces the theme.

A mockup of the spot illustration as it appeared within the body of the New York Times article online.
The full-page layout of my illustration in the New York Times International Print edition. Seeing my work in print is always a special experience.
A close-up of the second illustration for the NYT print edition, focusing on the DNA-flower concept.
The complete print layout for the NYT Opinion section, showing how my two illustrations were used together in the international edition.
A stylized presentation of my NYT illustration, framed by a pattern derived from the artwork itself.
An animated version of the NYT print layout, bringing a subtle motion to the artwork and its surrounding elements.
An editorial illustration for AARP's 'Sisters' newsletter about managing a side hustle. The artwork visualizes productivity tools like calendars and calculators to represent flowing revenue streams.
About Editorial & Commercial Commissions
When we work together on an editorial project, I don't just send a final file and disappear. My process is collaborative from the start, beginning with rough conceptual sketches to ensure we are aligned on the visual metaphor before I move into detailed rendering. You will get a chance to provide feedback during the ideation phase, ensuring the final piece feels like an extension of your specific story rather than a generic graphic.
My Approach to Editorial Commissions
Translating an abstract concept—whether it's sociogenomics for The New York Times or productivity for AARP—requires more than just drawing. It demands a deep dive into the subject matter. I treat every illustration as a narrative-driven piece rather than a simple accompaniment to text.
My workflow is structured to give you clarity and confidence in the final output:
- Discovery & Sketching: We start by discussing the article or project goals. I present 2-3 rough conceptual sketches to map out the visual direction.
- Refinement: We move to color exploration and detailed rendering. For commercial projects, I provide layered source files (PSD) which allows your design team to easily integrate the artwork into your specific layouts.
- Final Delivery: You receive high-resolution, print-ready files (CMYK or RGB as needed) that maintain the integrity of the original artwork, from fine linework to complex gradients.
Why Collaborate?
I specialize in visual metaphors that capture 'emotional ecosystems.' Whether you need a spot illustration, a half-page spread, or complex hero artwork for a book or album cover, I build in enough flexibility for feedback rounds. This ensures the visual tone perfectly matches the voice of your publication or brand.
While I am comfortable with both analog and digital mediums, my commercial work is primarily executed digitally to ensure versatility across print and web platforms. If you have a story that needs a visual anchor, let's connect and see how we can bring it to life. 👁️✨🌱
