About this collection

Each of these miniature platters is sculpted by hand using air-dry clay, avoiding any factory molds. I personally focus on the textures of every dish, from the crispiness of a fried vadai to the soft, porous surface of an idli. Once finished, I treat every piece with a water-resistant varnish, ensuring your miniature meal stays vibrant as a fridge magnet or a unique tabletop display.

When I started crafting these, I didn't just want to make tiny food; I wanted to recreate the feeling of sitting down to a meal at home. A South Indian thali served on a banana leaf is more than just lunch—it's a tradition.

My process for these pieces begins with mixing the clay to match the natural colors of ingredients like paruppu (dal) or the deep red of a spicy pickle. For larger platters, I layer 10 to 18 individual components onto a banana leaf base. The resin work is particularly important here; I use it to simulate the glisten of sambar or the translucency of a fresh chutney, which gives the piece a hyper-realistic look that catches the light.

Why choose these miniatures?

  • Hand-sculpted Authenticity: No two pieces are identical because every grain of rice and vegetable is shaped individually.
  • Built to Last: I use high-grade air-dry clay and multiple layers of varnish to ensure color preservation and protection against moisture.
  • Functional Art: Whether you want a heavy-duty magnet for your fridge or a stationary piece for your office desk, I adjust the backing to suit your needs.

These pieces make thoughtful gifts for people who live away from home and miss the taste of their amma’s cooking. If you are interested in creating these yourself, I also offer detailed, beginner-friendly video courses where I walk you through the techniques for making every side dish, from poriyal to payasam, in Hindi and Tamil. You get lifetime access to these lessons, so you can learn at your own pace.
