Bridges to School: Building Classroom Readiness
We help children navigate school transitions with confidence, social-emotional support, and playful, real-world learning experiences.
We believe the early school years are about more than just academics. Our Bridges to School Program focuses on finding your place, making friends, and building the confidence to explore the world with joy and curiosity.
Our 12 week Bridges to School program explores a new theme each week, helping children practice skills like following group instructions and participating in routines. Through real world experiences like exploring nature, children discover their interests and strengths.
The Seedling module, for children aged 4 to 7, is for those just beginning their journey in group settings. We introduce gentle classroom structures and routines, focusing on play, early peer interaction, and feeling safe in a group.
The Sapling module is designed for children aged 5 to 8 who are ready for more structured social learning. It offers activities that build teamwork, problem solving, and self regulation, with opportunities to collaborate more independently with peers.
About Bridges to School: Building Classroom Readiness
We move beyond simple academic preparation. Our 12-week program uses specific modules, such as Seedling for beginners and Sapling for those ready for complex social dynamics, to help children manage school routines. We focus on executive functioning, such as following multi-step instructions and organizing personal belongings, all within a low-pressure environment.
The transition to a formal school environment requires more than knowing the alphabet. It demands the ability to navigate social boundaries, self-regulate during transitions, and participate in group routines. Our Bridges to School program provides this foundation for children aged 4 to 8, helping them feel secure and capable.
How Our Approach Works
We utilize a simulated classroom environment to gently introduce your child to the mechanics of school. Rather than using traditional drills, we employ themed activities that mirror the demands of a classroom—such as turn-taking, asking for help, and managing transitions between tasks.
Our Modules
- Seedling (Ages 4-7): Designed for children just beginning group experiences. We emphasize feeling safe within a collective, following gentle structures, and establishing early peer interactions.
- Sapling (Ages 5-8): For children ready to engage with more abstract social concepts. We focus on collaborative problem-solving, understanding classroom expectations, and building independence.
Why Executive Functioning Matters
Many children struggle with school not because of their academic capability, but because of the hidden demands of the school day. We offer targeted support in executive functioning. We practice essential skills like organizing school bags, listening to complex instructions, and managing time. By building these habits in a supervised setting, we help children enter their mainstream classroom with the confidence to handle the day-to-day challenges of learning and socializing.
