At Chiaroscuro, every bag comes from a single artisan’s hands. I’m Smriti and co-creating with you is my favorite part of what we do. No mass production here - just real people like Danish and Rehman bhai, making each piece from start to finish. Lots of our best designs started as casual chats with you all, turning simple ideas into personalized leather bag design.
How You Can Make It Yours
- Monograms: Add up to 10 characters (letters, numbers, even ♡ or #). You pick the spot - outside for show, or tucked inside for your secret.
- Leathers: We use upcycled leather, so options are always changing. Maybe you get the soft sheepskin, maybe the sturdy buffalo hide with halka grainy texture. Sometimes a leather runs out fast - bahut bika hai, khatam hone wala hai (sold a lot, almost finished).
- Artistic Touches: Want Gond painting or Zardozi embroidery? We work with artists who can hand-paint or stitch directly onto your bag. Woven leather is our signature style - choose single color for texture, or go full Madurai for color.
- Practical Tweaks: Need a zip pocket, divider, longer strap, or zip closure? Tell me how you use your bag and I’ll help you adjust it.
What’s Possible and What’s Not
Handwork means each piece has its quirks. Not every leather suits every technique - soft ones are great for embroidery, thick ones not so much. I’ll always let you know upfront so the custom monogram bag or hand-painted bag artwork you get lasts and feels right.

My Story
Smriti here – so, Chiaroscuro is basically a tiny studio tucked in Delhi, where leather scraps become something special. It's not all shiny and showroom-y, just a few of us, hands deep in leather, stitching away. Sometimes we score wild leftover leather, sometimes it's soft, sometimes not so much. Each bag’s got a bit of India in it – Kashida, Sanganeri, even Gond art. What I love most? Watching our single artisan leather bags travel from Mumbai to Egypt, each one with its own story.
