About Butterfly & Floral Cakes
A lot of people ask how I keep the butterflies looking so fluttery and light. I use a specific mix of food-safe cardstock and edible wafer paper butterflies, which I place on the cake only right before delivery. This ensures they stay crisp and don't soak up the buttercream moisture, keeping the look fresh even after the cake has been sitting out at your party.
Floral and butterfly designs have a way of softening the look of any celebration. When I work on these, I focus on the 'watercolor' buttercream finish—it creates that dreamy, soft background that makes the flowers and butterflies pop. For the flowers, I use different piping tips to build texture so they look layered rather than flat.
The butterflies are where it gets fun. I select them based on your party colors—whether you want gold, lavender, pink, or something vibrant—and layer them so they look like they are actually landing on the cake. You aren't getting a factory-made cake here. If the birthday girl has a specific dress she is wearing, send me a photo. I love matching the ombré buttercream colors to the shade of the dress.
