From legendary screen icons to your favorite anime characters, I love bringing faces to life in henna. If you have a character or star you adore, let’s make them a part of your design.

This video shows my process for creating a portrait of Aishwarya Rai from the movie Ponniyin Selvan. I start with a light sketch on the skin to get the proportions right before filling in the details with henna.

The completed Aishwarya Rai portrait on the arm, paired with an elephant design on the palm. This is a great example of combining a character tribute with traditional henna elements.

A detailed close-up of the Aishwarya Rai portrait. I focused on capturing the intricate jewelry and the regal expression from her character in the film.

A quick reveal video showing the reference photo of the legendary Madhubala next to my finished henna portrait. It's so satisfying to see them side by side.

A close-up of the Madhubala portrait. I used fine lines and careful shading to recreate her classic beauty and expressive eyes. My dad was my model for this one!

As a demo for my portrait workshop, I created this henna of Shahid Kapoor from Jab We Met. This video shows the reference photo and the final piece.

Another practice portrait reveal, this time of a young Dharmendra. I love recreating the look of old Bollywood stars.

I was aiming for a Disney or anime-inspired style with this piece. It's a fun, stylized portrait that shows a different side of my figurative work.

About Bollywood & Character Tributes

For these portraits, accuracy is everything. I always start by sketching the face on your skin with a fine line to make sure the proportions are perfect before I move on to the actual henna shading. This ensures that the resemblance is spot on, whether it's a legendary actor or a stylized character you love.

Portrait henna is where I feel most challenged, but it’s also the work I find the most rewarding. Whether you want a realistic rendering of a Bollywood icon like Madhubala or a stylized anime character, the process remains the same—it’s about precision and patience.

How We Get It Right

  • Reference Photos: The clearer the photo, the better the result. For portraits, I work best with high-resolution images where the lighting is clear.
  • The Sketch: I don't just jump into the henna. We start with a light sketch on the skin. This lets you approve the placement and proportions before I commit to the shading.
  • Natural Ingredients: I only use my homemade, 100% natural, organic henna paste. This is non-negotiable for me. It ensures a deep, rich stain that develops over 24-48 hours.
  • Styling: I often combine these portraits with floral elements, negative space, or traditional jali work to make the composition flow naturally with your arm or palm.

Choosing Your Design

Most clients choose a 3x4 inch portrait for a wrist or forearm placement, which takes about 60 to 90 minutes. If you are looking for something more elaborate—like a full-figure scene or a couple portrait incorporating mythological themes—I usually recommend planning for a 2.5 to 4-hour session.

I’m always happy to mix styles. If you have a wild idea or an unusual character request, don’t hesitate to ask. I’ve done everything from classic actors to modern anime favorites, and I’m always looking for a new challenge.
