Timeless Home Interiors & Structural Renovations
A collection of our most meaningful transformations, where we rebuild the bones of a home to create quiet, lasting spaces that reflect your story.
This living room is a conversation between the old and the new. We built a foundational wall using large, locally sourced stones to create a rustic, fort-like feel, providing a textured backdrop for the family's cherished art and modern furniture. It’s a space designed for connection, where every element, from the floral print chairs to the hand-painted cabinets, tells a part of the family's story.
Unattractive structural beams are a common issue in many apartments, but they don't have to be. In this video, I demonstrate how we conceal them by creating a soft, curved gypsum ceiling. This not only hides the beam but also creates a beautiful niche for cove lighting, adding a premium, gentle feel to the entire room without the need for a full false ceiling.
A staircase is more than just a way to get from one floor to another; it's a home's central sculpture. This custom-designed cantilevered staircase appears to float, creating a sense of lightness and open space. By using solid wood for the treads and a minimal support system, we turned a functional element into a striking piece of structural art.
In this master bedroom, we wanted to create a sense of grandeur that felt both traditional and comforting. The headboard, a combination of silk, brocade, and a hand-painted panel, stretches to the ceiling, framed by the room's teak wood four-poster bed and exposed ceiling beams. It’s a sanctuary that feels layered and timeless, a quiet retreat from the world.
This kitchen is a celebration of color and symmetry, inspired by traditional Goan homes. The central island, with its vibrant blue tiles and aged green paint finish, is the heart of the space. We paired it with handmade yellow tiles and olive green cabinetry to create a room that feels both nostalgic and full of life, proving that functional spaces can also be joyful.
This is the reality of a deep renovation. Before we can build, we must deconstruct. This kitchen started as a bare shell, a scene of controlled chaos with rubble and exposed walls. It's the necessary first step in completely reimagining a space to fit a family's life and needs.
And here is the calm after the chaos. The same kitchen, now transformed into a clean, functional, and serene space. With light grey cabinetry, an arched pass-through to the dining area, and smart storage solutions, it’s a testament to how structural changes can bring light, flow, and a completely new energy to the heart of the home.
About this collection
A recurring detail in our work here is the structural shift—moving away from standard false ceilings to embrace exposed beams, or building out stone walls that define a room’s character. We believe these foundational choices create a sense of permanence and warmth that trendy laminates simply cannot provide.
This collection represents the heart of how we approach residential design. We start by looking at the architecture of your apartment—the beams, the floor plan, and the ceiling height—and then decide what needs to change to make the space breathe.
Our approach often involves what some might call heavy changes. For instance, we might strip a kitchen down to its concrete shell or cut into walls to install a solid wood cantilevered staircase. It is rarely an easy process, as it involves dust and debris, but it creates a home that feels solid rather than staged.
You will notice a consistent thread of earthy, natural materials throughout these projects. We prefer stone, terracotta, and solid wood over high-gloss finishes because they age gracefully. Whether it is a kitchen with vibrant tiles inspired by Goan architecture or a master bedroom defined by teak beams and fabric headboards, our goal is to create a rhythm in your home that slows you down. When we design, we are thinking about how you will feel ten years from now, not just how the room looks today.
We don't chase trends or flashy looks. We are here to help you narrate your story through the walls, the flooring, and the light. If you are looking for a place where you can feel still, and if you understand that a truly comfortable home takes time and patience to build, we would love to collaborate with you.
By the Riverside
At By The Riverside, we think of design as a slow, thoughtful process. We don't chase trends or quick fixes; instead, we look for ways to make your home feel grounded and truly yours, whether that means tearing down a wall to create flow or working with natural, earthy materials. Let’s sit down and talk about the story your home is trying to tell.
