Batting Technique Coaching: Master the Basics
Solid batting isn't built on flair, it's built on strong foundations. We focus on getting your stance, footwork, and elbow position perfect so you can play with confidence.
Batting is about muscle memory. Here, I am guiding a young batter to focus on her elbow position through the shot. Consistent, focused practice on one small detail makes a huge difference in your game.
The nets are where technique is honed. This is a typical net session for our younger players, where they face plenty of deliveries to build their confidence and shot selection under a coach's watchful eye.
A young batsman faces a spinner during a practice match. This is where net practice translates to real-world performance, learning to read the ball and play according to the field.
About this collection
I don't care about flashy shots if your basics are loose. When you’re at my nets, we focus on the transfer of weight. If your back foot isn't balanced or your elbow is dropping, that’s where we start. You’ll spend hours on hanging ball drills until your muscle memory takes over, because simple, clean technique is what survives under match pressure.
Building from the Ground Up
Good batting is about muscle memory. Whether you are a beginner learning the straight drive or a U-19 player looking to correct a flaw in your backlift, the approach remains the same: repetition and correction.
Why Our Drills Matter
We don't just 'play nets' here. We use specific tools like the hanging ball to isolate your hand-eye coordination. This removes the variable of pace so you can focus entirely on your elbow path and the face of your bat. If your alignment is wrong, I will tell you instantly. We do this on our red soil wickets at the Palace Grounds, which forces you to watch the ball closely.
The 'Basics First' Philosophy
- Footwork: We make sure your front foot is where it needs to be before the bat comes down. No shortcuts.
- Weight Transfer: Your power comes from your hip and legs, not just your arms. If you aren't transferring your weight, you aren't playing the shot correctly.
- Technical Correction: I am on the ground with you. When I see your body getting tight, I will tell you to relax. If your stance is closing off, we fix it until it becomes natural.
Beyond the Nets
Technique is useless if it doesn't hold up in a match. We move from these isolated drills into center-wicket practice, where you learn to apply your technique against real bowlers in a game-like environment. We track your progress, not just in runs, but in how you handle different types of deliveries and pressure situations.
