Our Story & Community: Real Coffee Education
Coffee is more than just a drink; it is a community we are building. From the open roads where this started to our academy doors, here is the story behind the cup.

This is my origin story. I'm Binny Varghese, and I started Barista Training Academy after a motorcycle journey across the country revealed a huge gap in coffee education.
We love engaging with our community. This is an invitation for our followers to ask any questions they have about coffee science or barista techniques.
Happy Espresso Day! Here I am explaining the origin of the word "espresso" and why pronouncing it "expresso" isn't technically wrong, especially in India.
We're always exploring emerging coffee regions. Here, a student is sorting green beans from Nagaland, a hidden gem in India's coffee landscape.
About Our Story & Community
I started Barista Training Academy because I saw a massive gap in how we teach coffee while riding my motorcycle across the country. I didn't want to build just another school; I wanted a place where the barrier to entry isn't fancy jargon or expensive certifications, but actual, usable skill. Whether you are looking to run a cafe or just brew a decent cup at home, we focus on what really matters—making coffee that you would want to pay for again.
How It All Started
It wasn't a grand, boardroom-planned business idea. It began on a motorcycle trip across India. I kept meeting people with big dreams of opening cosy cafes, but they were missing the hard business realities and practical skills. The industry was too focused on technicality and snobbery. My mission became simple: cut the drama, demystify the science, and teach skills that actually translate into a sustainable business or a great daily ritual.
The Team
Our philosophy is simple because our team is real. Take my head trainer, Aryaman. He was a machine learning engineer who got into coffee during his JEE mains preparation—mostly, he says, because he didn't want to write code. That is the kind of passion we have here. We are not academics in white coats; we are enthusiasts who have walked the path, messed up, and learned how to fix it.
Building a Local Coffee Community
We believe coffee shouldn't be an elitist bubble. We are actively working to reconnect coffee with local cultural contexts. That is why we developed our own flavour wheels using local Indian references rather than forcing imported flavour notes like 'blueberry' that most of us don't identify with. We are out there collaborating with farmers in regions like Nagaland, learning from them, and bringing that knowledge back to the academy. Whether it is competing in the National Brewers Cup or helping a student launch their own shop, we are building a space where coffee is inclusive, purposeful, and, most importantly, honest.
Barista Training Academy
I'm Binny, and my world revolves around two things: motorcycles and coffee. I started this place because I was tired of the industry's fluff and wanted to focus on skills that actually matter in a real-world cafe.
