The Guiding Philosophy: My Path to Yoga
Yoga is more than just asanas. Join me as we explore the deeper lineage, philosophy, and mindful practice that ground our community at Ashtanga Yoga Sadhna.
I started my yoga practice for my health, but my teachers showed me it was a path to inner stillness. This journey is rooted in the wisdom they shared with me. In this practice, I am not a guide who has all the answers, but a fellow traveler sharing what I have learned along the way.
Our shala is a space held together by the reverence for our teachers. The altar, with portraits of the gurus from our lineage, is the heart of our room. It is a constant reminder of the path they have laid for us and the gratitude we hold for their guidance.
Gifting my Guruji, Sharath Jois, a framed photograph of the Mysore Palace is one of my most cherished memories. His simple encouragement to "keep taking photos and creating beautiful memories" has stayed with me. His guidance continues to be a light on my journey.
I am grateful for the holistic practice of yoga, for my teachers, and for the community of practitioners who have crossed my path. Belief in a higher power, the support of a community, and the guidance of the practice all contribute to a fulfilling and harmonious life.
At our shala, we believe yoga is more than just asana. It is a way of life that integrates breath, stillness, and presence. The ultimate aim of the practice is to quiet the fluctuations of the mind and return to our essential nature.
A dear friend gifted me this beautiful idol of Lord Buddha under the Bodhi Tree, the place of his enlightenment. It is a precious addition to my home, a reminder of the path of peace and calmness that the Buddha's teachings illuminate for all of us.
About The Guiding Philosophy
My practice is rooted in the traditional Ashtanga lineage of Sri Sharath Jois, where we shift focus from physical stretching to mental stillness. Whether you are new to the mat or deepening your journey, our shala in JP Nagar offers a space to practice with discipline and community, not just for exercise, but for long-term inner peace.
At Ashtanga Yoga Sadhna, the philosophy is simple: we show up, we breathe, and we grow slowly. This path is not about achieving the perfect pose or gaining flexibility for its own sake. It is about creating a space where the noise of the city fades, allowing for a genuine connection to breath and rhythm. We honor the traditional Mysore style, but the real work happens in the quiet moments between breaths. We do not chase performance. Our community, or kula, is built on the principle that yoga is a lifelong journey. We incorporate pranayama, meditation, and chanting, ensuring the practice touches every part of your day, not just the hour you spend in our studio. From our kids' programs to our meditation retreats, the goal is always to find that inner stillness, or shanti. This is a space for discipline, patience, and the realization that we are all on the same path. Whether you are looking for Hatha classes, Mysore style, or guided meditation, you will find a consistent, supportive environment that welcomes all bodies and minds.
Nitesh Batra
I am Nitesh. I started my path in 2006 after a health challenge led me to the mat, but it was my teachers who helped me understand that yoga is a journey of the spirit. I am here to share the traditional Ashtanga practice and the quiet, steady discipline that has kept me grounded for nearly two decades.
