These journeys go beyond simple travel. We move as a sangha, sharing silence, discipline, and the profound beauty of sacred landscapes to deepen our collective practice.

The Girivalam pilgrimage around Arunachala mountain during Purnima is an incredible sight. We walked as a shala group amidst a sea of devotees, each person driven by their own faith. The collective energy of thousands walking together creates a powerful atmosphere of spiritual unity.

On our pilgrimage, we meet people from all walks of life. The smiles of these two children are a reminder of the simple joy and innocence that can be found everywhere. These human connections are as much a part of the journey as the destination itself.

A moment of pure devotion captured during our walk around Arunachala. This man's expression of faith is a powerful reminder of what drives so many to undertake these sacred journeys. It is a connection that transcends words.

Rituals are an integral part of pilgrimage. Here, devotees perform a small fire ceremony on the street during the Girivalam. These acts of worship, performed with sincerity and focus, add to the sacredness of the atmosphere.

The path of devotion can take many forms. This man lies on the road in an act of extreme surrender and faith. Witnessing such moments is a humbling experience that challenges our understanding of practice and dedication.

Our pilgrimages are open to everyone, and the path is shared by a diverse community of people. Here, a group of transgender women, or kinnars, walk with devotion. Their presence is a beautiful expression of the inclusive nature of faith.

A quiet moment of observation during the pilgrimage. Looking through a gate at the temple, we see the line of devotees waiting patiently. Sometimes, the most profound moments are found not in the center of the action, but in the stillness of watching.

About Journeys with the Sangha

When we walk the 14-kilometer path around Arunachala or trek the high altitudes of the Himalayas, we do not just travel; we practice together. Our group journeys are rooted in discipline—early starts, communal meals, and shared silence—which transforms the physical effort into a collective spiritual experience that is often difficult to sustain when practicing alone.
