Build a strong foundation with disciplined karate kata practice. I focus on precise techniques and steady rhythm to help you master the basics of martial arts.
An aerial view of our students assembled for a large scale outdoor training session. The sheer number of participants shows the strength and size of our karate community, all learning together.
"Ichi, Ni, San..." The count guides the movement. This video shows a synchronized kata drill where students learn to execute techniques with timing and unity, a key part of our karate classes for kids and adults.
A massive outdoor training event where hundreds of students practice in unison. Leading such a large group requires focus from everyone, and it builds a powerful sense of shared purpose.
Even in large groups, I make sure the energy is high. Here I am with a drum, keeping the rhythm and motivating the students during a mass kata practice session.
A wide shot showing the scale of our training camps. Hundreds of students in their white gi, spread across the field, ready for a day of intense karate practice and learning.
Training in nature connects us to the roots of martial arts. I am guiding my students through their stances and movements under the shade of a large tree, emphasizing focus and form.
A group of my senior students, the black belts, leading a practice session. They demonstrate the correct form and intensity, setting an example for the junior belts.
Respect is the first lesson. Students begin and end each session with a bow, a core tradition in our dojo that teaches humility and discipline.
From this perspective, you can see the perfect lines and spacing of our students. This level of organization is central to our training philosophy and large scale events.

About The Foundation: Kata & Drills
Whether you are a total beginner or an advanced student refining your form, we start every movement with the basics. You will learn each kata step-by-step, repeating the sequence until your muscle memory takes over and the movement feels natural—or as I like to say, chennagi bandide (done well).
In karate, the kata is not just a sequence of movements; it is a battle. When you practice these foundational patterns at Ashoka Martial Arts Academy in RR Nagar, you are training your mind as much as your body. Each block, strike, and stance is built on the philosophy of 'one count, one moment.'
Why we focus on the foundation:
- Precision over Power: Many new students want to strike hard immediately. I teach the opposite. We slow down—nidhanakke kandro—to ensure your stance is low, your guard is up, and your center of gravity is steady.
- The 'Ichi, Ni, San' Rhythm: We drill in unison. This creates a powerful shared energy in the dojo. By synchronizing with your peers, you learn focus, timing, and spatial awareness, which are critical for both self-defense and tournament preparation.
- Building Muscle Memory: By repeating basic kihon (fundamentals) and kata (forms), we ensure that when you are in a sparring match, your body reacts instinctively without needing to think.
Who is this for? Whether you are looking for children's martial arts or adult self-defense classes in Bengaluru, the fundamentals remain the same. We train on outdoor grounds or in community halls, stripping away the distractions of fancy equipment so you can focus purely on your craft. You will be graded through a formal belt examination process, ensuring your progress is tracked and recognized. This is not about shortcuts; it is about building a discipline that stays with you for life.
