The Statement Piece

- Concept Draping: Pre-pleated or concept sarees with zip-up mechanisms that eliminate manual draping while ensuring a slimming silhouette.
- Fusion Elements: Modern cuts like one-shoulder necklines, thigh-high slits in saree skirts, or belt additions to update traditional wear.
Styling & Finish
- Color Theory Application: Selection of photogenic shades (monochromes or high-contrast) specifically chosen to pop on social media feeds.
- Accessories Styling: Curation of belts, waistbands (Vaddanam), or brooches to elevate the final look.
About Celebrity & Film Styling
I believe every outfit tells a story, especially in the world of films and red carpet events. For me, styling isn't just about clothes - it’s about building a character or making a star feel like themselves, whether on screen or at an award function.
What I Do
- I design and style looks for Sandalwood industry stars, from movie costumes to TV show wardrobes and those big red carpet moments.
- My process starts with understanding the character or celebrity’s vibe. I work closely with directors, actors, and sometimes even use a personal item - adanna itkondu (using that) - as inspiration for the whole look.
- For TV and film, I focus on custom film costume creation, making sure every detail fits the story. Sometimes it’s minimal, sometimes it’s all-out glam.
- Red carpet outfit design for events like IIFA Utsavam and Zee Kutumba Awards – statement pieces that turn heads, but also let the celebrity feel comfortable and confident.
How I Work
- Most pieces are completely bespoke, from sourcing the right fabric to intricate handwork and custom embellishments.
- I handle fittings myself, making sure the fit and fall are perfect. Even if a client says, “thumba heavy work beda, minimal aagirli” (don’t want heavy work, keep it minimal), I adapt to their needs.
- Tight deadlines? No problem. I’ve done prototype costumes in just a few days when needed.
My Style Range
- For him: statement suits, kurtas with a twist, sharp blazers (even “villain style”).
- For her: red carpet gowns, power suits, concept sarees, fusion outfits.
- Every project is a collaboration – working with the celeb, director, makeup, and hair artists to get a complete look.
Styling is about trust and teamwork. I love the whole journey, from first idea to that final, memorable look.

My Story
Hey, Rashmi here from Arulaa. Sarees, blouses, every piece we make has some story behind it - not just fabric, but memories stitched in. Sometimes it’s a bride’s muhurtham, sometimes an actor’s big day. I once made a pallu work matching a client’s golden brooch, she went mad with happiness! (Aagide, she was so thrilled!) Ten years with some clients, that’s the best part. From Bangalore to UAE, it’s about heart and craft, always.
