Innovative Housing and Residential Architecture
We build homes that breathe. By prioritizing natural ventilation, shared community spaces, and site-specific layouts, we turn dense housing projects into living, green sanctuaries.
The ARCUS residential building in Chennai, shown here in its urban context. The design uses a combination of brick and dark panels to create a contemporary facade that stands out while respecting the scale of the neighborhood.
This street-level view of ARCUS shows how the building interacts with the daily life of the T Nagar neighborhood. We designed the structure to integrate into the bustling urban environment while providing a private sanctuary for residents.
A site plan of the ARCUS project, illustrating how the building footprint was carefully positioned within the dense urban block. The red highlight shows the building's placement to maximize views and preserve surrounding trees.
This 3D model of ARCUS shows its relationship with the surrounding low-rise buildings and tree canopy. The model was a crucial tool for us to study sightlines and ensure the building fit harmoniously into its context.
A view of the ARCUS facade through the branches of a preserved tree. This image perfectly captures our primary goal for this project: to build in harmony with nature, even on a tight urban site.
A site visit to our "Earth & Sky" housing project in Bangalore during construction. This black and white photo highlights the strong geometric forms of the concrete structure and the deep, recessed balconies that will become private gardens.
Another perspective from the "Earth & Sky" construction site. These images capture the raw beauty of the architectural frame and our process of overseeing the project from concept to completion.
About this collection
We don't just stack apartments. In projects like Nandi Souls or our work in Chennai, we specifically design the in-between spaces—the corridors, staircases, and lobby areas—to be as inviting as the homes themselves. We believe these common zones are where a community actually forms, so we treat them as vertical streets where you would actually want to hang out, rather than just walk through.
Great housing architecture starts before the first brick is laid. When we take on a residential project, whether it is a high-rise tower or a boutique weekend development, we begin by listening to the site. We treat the existing land, trees, and wind patterns as partners in the design process rather than obstacles to clear away.
Designing for Connection
In our high-density residential work, the biggest challenge is preventing the 'concrete block' feel. We counter this by integrating social hubs. At our Nandi Souls project, for instance, we placed cafes, libraries, and coworking spaces directly along the main staircase axis. This creates a vertical street that encourages neighbors to run into each other, fostering a sense of belonging that is often missing in modern developments.
Respecting the Context
Our approach to facade and massing is always specific to the local neighborhood. For the ARCUS project in Chennai, we worked around existing trees, shifting our building footprint in and out to ensure we didn't touch them. This required complex adjustments, but the result was a facade that feels like it has always belonged there, with the tree canopy providing natural shading and privacy for the residents.
The Human Scale
We focus heavily on the 'sarsarahat'—that buzz of life that happens when a space works. This means:
- Passive Cooling: Using stack effect and cross-ventilation techniques to reduce reliance on air conditioning.
- Private Greenery: Designing balconies that function as actual gardens, not just storage areas.
- Shared Infrastructure: Creating courtyards and amphitheaters in larger master plans to bring people together beyond their own front doors.
If you are planning a housing project, we are interested in how your site can support a community, not just how many units we can fit on a floor plate.
