Freehand Drawing and Sketching Classes in Bandra

I teach drawing by helping students trust their own hands, not by tracing lines. At my Bandra studio, we focus on building confidence through freehand sketching, shading, and perspective.

"Art without copy leads to a high level of thinking." This video shows my students practicing their freehand drawing skills, starting with basic shapes on the whiteboard and moving to detailed sketches on paper.

About Freehand Drawing & Sketching

We start every session with simple shapes on the whiteboard, not patterns from a book. By skipping tracing, students learn to visualize proportions and build real muscle memory. It is messy, it takes patience, and it teaches them to own every stroke they put on paper.

Tracing feels safe, but it stifles the imagination. My goal is to get your child drawing from observation and memory, not replicating what someone else has already drawn. Whether it is capturing the curve of a leaf or the shadow of a building, we break complex subjects down into circles, squares, and triangles.

We spend time on core techniques: one-point perspective, tonal values, and texture creation. The materials matter when you are learning, so we use my own range of BAAKIN hybrid paints and professional-grade paper to ensure every line shows up clearly.

Classes are limited to small batches of 6 to 10 students. This allows me to sit with each student, correcting their grip, adjusting their shading technique, or explaining why a shadow falls a certain way. This approach transforms drawing from a stressful chore into a meditative practice. It is not about making a perfect picture on the first try; it is about teaching the eye to see and the hand to follow, ensuring your child learns a skill they will carry for life.

I am Alafiya. I opened my studio in Bandra so kids and adults could have a space to let go and create without the pressure of being perfect. I love watching my students stop tracing and start truly seeing what they are drawing.
