Republic Day Parade Rehearsal Photography
Capturing the discipline, the fog-drenched mornings, and the quiet pride of India’s Republic Day rehearsals. These are the raw, unscripted moments behind the grand spectacle.

About National Pride: Parades and Memorials
When I shoot these rehearsals, I intentionally look for silhouettes against the Delhi fog. It strips away individual identity, turning the parade into a study of collective discipline and uniform motion. This approach captures the essence of the armed forces without needing a polished, bright-light aesthetic.
Shooting near Kartavya Path during the early hours is less about the grand ceremony and more about the grit before the sunrise. The rehearsals happen in a grey, misty silence that feels entirely different from the main event. My goal is to photograph that stillness.
The Technical Challenge
Working with the Fujifilm X-T series, I rely on fast prime lenses to pull focus in low-light, foggy conditions. You won't find over-saturated colours here. Instead, I focus on the contrast between the dark silhouettes of the soldiers and the flat, white sky. Whether it’s the Assam Rifles or the Air Force contingent, the movement needs to feel precise but grounded.
Why Candid Documentary
I steer clear of posed shots. You’ll see the band conductor leading with a sword or a civilian runner passing by the marching band. These juxtapositions tell a more honest story about the city and the military than a static press shot ever could.
Coverage Details
If you are looking to document a parade, a memorial service, or a high-discipline event:
- Atmospheric focus: I prioritize natural light and environmental mood.
- Equipment: I bring mirrorless systems that are quiet and unobtrusive, perfect for solemn or disciplined environments.
- Perspective: I combine ground-level street photography with aerial drone shots to show both the individual's effort and the scale of the formation.
Let’s capture the discipline and the story behind the ceremony.

I’m Akshansh. I treat Delhi’s streets and parades like a living, breathing story. I don’t stage these moments; I just wait for the right light and the right movement to reveal the pride and discipline of the people behind the uniform.
