Musical Dialogues and Classical Collaborations
Music is a conversation, and I am fortunate to share the stage with maestros, creating a flow of rhythm and melody that transcends words.
What a melodious evening it was with the Sitar maestro, Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan. Sharing moments like these with such esteemed artists is always a source of great joy and inspiration.

About Collaborations & Musical Dialogues
When sharing the stage with a sitar maestro like Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan or a tabla stalwart like Pandit Yogesh Samsi, the focus remains on spontaneous improvisation rather than rehearsed patterns. I listen to the phrasing, catch the mood of the raga, and weave a rhythmic commentary into the fabric of the performance to ensure our dialogue feels natural and alive.
In the tradition of Hindustani classical music, accompaniment is not merely supporting the lead artist. It is a conversation. Whether it is a jugalbandi (duet) or supporting a vocalist, my approach relies on the nuances of the Ajrada Gharana. We do not simply play the beat. We anticipate the soloist's next move, understand their breath, and provide a rhythmic texture that enhances their expression without overshadowing it.
These collaborations require a deep sense of tehzeeb (etiquette). Understanding when to remain quiet and when to punctuate the melody with a crisp ladi or a complex kaida is the essence of my craft. Over the years, I have had the privilege to perform at iconic venues like Kamani Auditorium, navigating the unique acoustics and the expectations of a discerning audience.
If you are planning an event, a lecture-demonstration, or a festival, I bring this experience of live, responsive interaction to the stage. It is about creating a moment that feels honest, where every stroke on the tabla responds to the atmosphere of the hall. Let us discuss how we can bring this dialogue to your upcoming musical program.
