Championing the Karigar: Authentic Handmade Crafts
We built a bridge between rural makers and city dwellers to ensure every hand-crafted piece gets the appreciation it deserves.
Our journey began by inviting local food makers to sell from our garden. When they sold out on the first day, we knew we had discovered something magical: the power of connecting creators directly with customers.
How does an artisan join our community? We have a rigorous selection process, led by a dedicated committee that vets each creator for skill, authenticity, and potential to ensure we only bring you genuine handmade work.
We exist to support the millions of people in India whose livelihood depends on the work of their hands. By following our journey, you help create an economic ripple effect that supports our nation's artisans.
About Our Mission: Championing the Karigar
You won't find resellers here. Before an artisan joins our collective, our selection committee spends weeks researching their background, skill, and process. We use a fine-tooth comb to ensure that when you see a piece at our events, it is truly 100% handmade and that the person behind the table is the one who actually crafted it.
Our mission is simple: we want to bring back Handmade. For too long, the 'karigar' (artisan) has been hidden behind brand labels and possessive retail culture. We cringe at the phrase 'yeh mera karigar hai' because it treats skilled makers like property rather than partners.
The Science of Selection
We approach artisan verification with the same rigor we brought from our scientific backgrounds. Our advisory board vets every applicant. We don't just look at the finished product; we look at the process. We check for authenticity, the level of skill, and the maker's dedication to their craft. If they make it, they earn their spot at our events.
Why We Do It
There is a healing power in 'haath ka kaam' (work of the hands). It is a way to slow down, find focus, and reconnect in a fast-paced world. By connecting you directly with these creators in Bangalore and beyond, we create an economic ripple effect. Your support does not just go to a business, it goes directly to the person who spent hours weaving, painting, or sculpting that item.
Join the Movement
Whether you are a creator who wants to showcase your work, a volunteer helping us run a festival, or someone looking to learn a new craft, there is a place for you. We host open mics, DIY workshops, and maker-led festivals. Come by our next event in Bengaluru to meet the makers, hear their stories, and take home something that has a soul.
A Hundred Hands
We are Mala and Sonia, the grey-haired folks who started this in a garden because we saw rural talent going unnoticed. We are tiny, picky, and entirely committed to making sure the person who weaves the cloth gets the credit for it.
