Solid designs are built on understanding space, not just drawing objects. See how we teach the core concepts—like negative space and shape language—that help students crack NID and NIFT entrance exams.

A student from our junior batch proudly displays her work from a class on negative space. This exercise trains the eye to see the shapes around an object, a key skill in composition and design.

This student is showing his composition studies using negative space. By painting the area around the objects, he learns to define their silhouettes and create a strong visual impact.

A student practicing her negative space painting technique. This exercise involves carefully painting the background to reveal the shape of the objects, improving brush control and compositional awareness.

About Design Fundamentals: Shape, Form & Composition

Negative space isn't just an art school concept, it is how you train your brain to see the structure behind every object. In our studio sessions, we start with these fundamental exercises because they force you to stop drawing what you think you see and start drawing what is actually there, which is the exact mindset examiners look for in NID and NIFT aptitude tests.

At Advik Art and Design, we believe that advanced design starts with simple habits. If you can master the relationship between positive and negative space, you have already won half the battle in any design entrance exam.

Our approach at our Sector 37, Noida studio is purely practical. We avoid heavy theory in favor of live demonstrations and constant sketching. Whether it is a bottle, a kettle, or a complex geometric form, we break it down into manageable shapes so you are not overwhelmed by the final drawing.

Why Shape and Form matter

Design entrance exams like the NID CAT and NIFT GAT test your lateral thinking and observational skills. A strong composition relies on balance, proportion, and weight. We help you build these skills through repetitive, hands-on practice.

Personalized Feedback

Unlike crowded coaching centers, I keep my batches small. This allows me to look at your work, point out where your perspective is slipping, and show you how to fix it immediately.

Structured Progression

We move from basic 2D shape studies to complex 3D form building, ensuring you have the portfolio-ready skills needed for both the written exams and the studio tests. You also have the option to earn a Pracheen Kala Kendra affiliated certification while you train with us.
