Bharatanatyam Performances and Professional Choreography
A collection of my favourite moments, from technical solos and artistic shoots to high-energy group routines that bring rhythm to life.
This image captures the dynamic energy and grace of Bharatanatyam. The motion blur effect, created with a slow shutter speed, represents the flow of movement and the spiritual energy that I channel in my solo dance performances.
This is a clip from an award winning college fest routine I choreographed for the talented team at RVCE. Creating high energy, themed group dances for competitions is something I absolutely love doing.
A moment of storytelling from a duet performance. Choreographing and performing pieces that explore the relationship between divine figures like Shiva and Shakti or Radha and Krishna allows for deep emotional expression and connection.
A short excerpt from my solo performance of 'Chandrashekaram', a piece in praise of Lord Shiva. This choreography by my gurus is one of my recent favorites, focusing on intricate footwork and expressive gestures.
With the wonderful dancers of RVCE after they secured first place at a fest with my choreography. It was a beautiful experience to guide these talented students and see their hard work pay off on stage.
Dance is not just for the stage; it is a way of life. This artistic shoot at a temple, inspired by the song 'Vanathi', captures the poetic and timeless beauty of classical dance in a natural, serene setting.
A powerful group formation from a performance for an ICCR cultural evening. Choreographing for a troupe involves creating visually stunning patterns and ensuring perfect synchronization, bringing a shared story to life.
About this collection
I believe movement should be both precise and personal, whether I am choreographing for a competitive college troupe or designing a unique wedding solo. When I work with groups like those at RVCE, my focus is on formation geometry and stage presence that keeps the audience hooked, while my solo work dives deeper into Abhinaya and the technical nuances of the Thillana. I do not just teach steps—I look at how your outfit moves, how the stage lighting hits, and how we can make the rhythm feel entirely yours.
My approach to choreography is rooted in the tradition of Bharatanatyam, but I love adapting its vocabulary for modern stages.
Competition and Group Dynamics
For college fests and competitions, I move beyond simple sequences to create narratives. Whether it is a thematic Kalinganarthana Thillana or a rhythmic group formation, I focus on the 'Natya' (storytelling) and 'Nritta' (pure dance) to ensure the team stands out. I guide groups through formation geometry, ensuring that even with 6 to 12 dancers, every angle is clean and impactful under stage lights.
Solo and Creative Expression
Solo performances are where I delve into the 'Sahitya' (lyrics) and emotional depth. I work on pieces that explore character portrayals and spiritual themes, like Shiva Tandava or expressive Padams. This is about precision—micro-corrections in your Hasta (hand gestures), eye lines, and footwork technique (Araimandi) that elevate a performance from good to powerful.
Performance for Life Events
For Sangeets and weddings, my goal is to make the performance stress-free and joyful. I simplify complex movements to suit heavy traditional attire like Kanjeevarams or Lehengas, ensuring you can move freely without losing the grace of the dance. Whether you are a beginner or experienced, I provide video notes and practice tools to help you build confidence before you step on the floor.
