Behind the Build: Our Hands-On Architecture Process

We don't just design from a screen. We build with our hands, on-site, getting the details right as they happen. Here is how we turn a sketch into a space.

An early morning site visit to a rooftop cafe project in Ayodhya. Being on-site allows me to spend quality time with the project, ensuring the structure is being built to my exact vision and making adjustments as needed.

A typical day on a construction site. Here, I'm discussing the framework for a rooftop structure with my team. This direct involvement is crucial to my process and ensures the quality of the execution.

The progress of the rooftop project in Ayodhya, from the initial steel framework to the installation of the glass ceiling. The design includes curved planters and arched structures to create a unique destination with a view.

The creative process often starts with experimentation. Here, we are mixing different pigments and binders to create a custom wall finish for my studio. This hands-on approach is where the real artistry begins.

Going back to basics with traditional craftsmanship. This video shows a carpenter hand-scribing a piece of wood to fit perfectly against a natural, uneven edge. This level of detail is what gives a project its soul.

Have you ever heard of a secret room? In this project, I designed a hidden door that blends seamlessly into the wall. It's these little moments of surprise and discovery that can make a home truly special.

About this collection

You won't find us just sending blueprints to a contractor and hoping for the best. When you see us on your site, we are actually there, mixing the lime wash pigments until the shade is just right, or hand-scribing timber to fit a natural, uneven edge perfectly. This isn't about rushing to hit a deadline. It is about the 'kulbalahat'—that spark of excitement we feel when a design finally takes physical form and starts to feel like home.

Architecture is often treated as a distant, desk-based profession, but our practice at Aavyaktaya is different. We believe the most critical design decisions happen on the construction site, not in the studio. When we are building—whether it is a rooftop cafe in Ayodhya or a private residence—we are physically present to manage the nuances of material and light.

The Design and Build Philosophy

Our approach is simple: we handle everything from the first sketch to the final installation. By acting as both designers and builders, we remove the disconnect that often happens between an architect's intent and a contractor's execution. If a wall needs a specific texture or a hidden door needs to blend into the woodwork, we work directly with our craftsmen to get it done. This is how we ensure 'raw luxury' is not just a concept, but a tangible quality of the space.

Why We Stay Hands-On

  • Quality Control: We don't wait for errors to appear in the final handover. If a beam, a window, or a corner isn't aligning with our vision for natural light or flow, we adjust it immediately.
  • Material Integrity: Using real materials like lime wash, stone, and raw wood requires a deep understanding of how they behave. We experiment with these materials on-site, testing mixes and finishes to ensure they age beautifully.
  • Solving the Unexpected: Every site throws a curveball. By being on-site, we turn these challenges into design opportunities, like integrating a hidden room or a custom structural arch, rather than just solving them with a quick, standardized fix.

We build spaces for you to live in, not just to look at. If you want a home that feels like a deep, calming breath, let’s talk about how we can build it together.

I am Akshay. Architecture for me is a mess of mud, wood dust, and natural light, and that is exactly where the magic happens. We build to create a feeling—that 'sukh and sukoon'—and I am on-site at every stage to make sure that feeling isn't lost in translation.
