Competition season is here, and your team deserves a routine that captures the judges' attention. I work closely with student troupes to design concepts that blend traditional Bharatanatyam with high-energy stage craft.

A glimpse of the award winning Kalinganarthana Thillana performance I choreographed for the RVCE dance team. This piece combines traditional Bharatanatyam with dynamic stage presence perfect for college competitions.

About this collection

When I work with a college team, we focus on more than just the moves. I spend time on formation geometry and stage blocking, making sure the transition from Nritta (pure dance) to Natya (storytelling) happens smoothly even when you're moving fast. It's about ensuring every dancer, regardless of skill level, looks clean and synchronized under stage lights, which is usually the difference between participation and a podium finish.

Beyond the Steps: Crafting a Winning Routine

College fests move fast. When I choreographed the Kalinganarthana Thillana for the RVCE team, the goal wasn't just to do the steps perfectly—it was to make sure the performance felt alive for the audience and the judges.

My Approach to Competition Choreography

  • Concept & Theme: Whether your team is leaning towards pure mythological storytelling or a fusion piece that needs a contemporary edge, we start by picking a concept that fits your team's size and energy level.
  • Formation Geometry: A common challenge in group choreography is making sure the stage doesn't look cluttered. I design formations that look good from the front, sides, and even from the balcony, keeping the visual hierarchy sharp.
  • Technical Polish: I focus heavily on the synchronization of hand angles (Hastas) and the clarity of footwork (Araimandi). These are the small, technical details that judges notice first when they are scoring technical prowess.

The Practical Stuff

I believe in transparency about how the process works. For a full 6-8 minute routine, I generally commit to 12-15 hours of onsite training. This is spread over 5 to 7 days, giving us enough time to clean the movements, refine the synchronization, and practice under stage lighting conditions.

I also handle the audio editing, ensuring the music tracks for your performance are cut, merged, and tempo-adjusted so they hit the right beats exactly when you need them to. If you're a student coordinator or a team captain, reach out and let's talk about your theme. Let's make something that the team is proud to perform.
