Breathwork and Mindfulness: Finding Stillness Within
Yoga is much more than the poses we hold. It is about how we breathe and quiet the mind. Here is how I integrate traditional pranayama and mindfulness into daily life to find balance.
Thoughts while practicing: Out of the eight limbs of yoga, why is only the pursuit of perfection in asanas scorned upon? A moment of reflection while in Baddha Konasana.
Santosh Param Sukham: Contentment is the ultimate happiness. A flow from Natarajasana to Padangusthasana, reflecting on the yogic principle of Santosha (contentment) from the Niyamas.
From darkness to light. This video, lit only by a candle, reflects on the quote by Hubert Reeves about humanity's relationship with nature. Yoga is a path to this deeper awareness.
While the body benefits from movement, the mind benefits from stillness. A simple flow from a standing backbend to a forward fold, emphasizing the balance between action and quiet.
If patience wasn't so easily tested, it would hardly be a virtue. Practicing Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing) in the peaceful environment of a meditation center in Dharamshala.
Tamso Ma Jyotirgamaya: Lead me from darkness to light. This practice was filmed starting at 4:30 AM in the dark, with the sky naturally lighting up at daybreak, symbolizing the journey of yoga.
Nobody can be anybody without somebody being around. A sun salutation practice during sunset in Nashik, reflecting on our interconnectedness and the ego.
About this collection
You do not need to be flexible to start this work. In these sessions, we focus on simple pranayama (breathing exercises) like Nadi Shodhana to calm the nervous system and manage daily stress. These techniques are designed to be practiced anywhere, whether you have an hour or just ten minutes, helping you build a consistent routine that fits into your life rather than forcing your life to fit around yoga.
Physical postures are just one limb of the eight-limbed path of yoga. When we move beyond the asana, we find the real work—cleansing the mind and regulating our energy. My sessions focus on bringing you back to your breath, the bridge between your body and mind.
Why Mindfulness Matters
In my own practice, some days are about high-energy Ashtanga flows, but others are about sitting quietly with a candle to observe the breath. Both are equally important. We often live in a state of high stress; pranayama acts as a reset button. Whether it is Nadi Shodhana to balance the left and right hemispheres of the brain, or simple observation of the breath to reduce anxiety, these are tools you can use off the mat.
