Our Asana Library: A Visual Pose Directory
A visual guide to foundational yoga poses. Learn correct alignment, understand the specific benefits for your body, and see how these postures help with flexibility, digestion, and stress relief.
Vyaghrasan (Tiger Pose): This dynamic pose is excellent for the spine, hips, and legs. It helps burn fat, relieve stress, and improve overall body posture and flexibility.
Ashwa Sanchalanasan (Equestrian Pose): A key part of the Sun Salutation, this pose provides a deep stretch for the hip flexors and strengthens the legs. It is also known to improve lung capacity and provide relief from sciatica.
Mala Asana (Garland Pose): This deep squat is wonderful for the spine and improves digestion. It opens the pelvic and hip joints, helping to improve balance and posture over time.
Goumukhasana (Cow-Face Pose): This seated posture provides a deep stretch for the shoulders, arms, and hips. It is particularly beneficial for improving flexibility in the upper body and strengthening the spine.
Supta Virasana (Reclining Hero Pose): A deep, restorative pose that stretches the thighs and hip flexors. It aids digestion, reduces fatigue, and promotes mental calmness and relaxation.
Marichayasana (Pose Dedicated to Sage Marichi): This seated twist and forward bend improves flexibility in the spine and shoulders. It also enhances concentration and builds core strength.
Bhu Naman Asana (Greeting the Earth): This pose is an expression of gratitude that also offers a deep stretch for the entire body. It improves digestion, stimulates the third eye chakra, and builds flexibility.
Balasana (Child's Pose): A gentle resting pose that calms the mind and body. It stimulates the third eye chakra and gently stretches the back, promoting a sense of peace and introspection.
About Our Asana Library: A Visual Pose Directory
Alignment is everything in yoga. It is easy to mimic a shape from a photo, but engaging the right muscles safely is where the real benefit comes from. In our interactive online sessions, I personally ensure you are moving correctly for your body type, rather than forcing you into a standard posture that might not be suitable for your current level of flexibility or existing health conditions.
While this visual library provides a great starting point for understanding poses like Malasana for digestion or Ashwa Sanchalanasan for hip mobility, static images cannot replace real-time guidance. When you practice at home, it is common to inadvertently strain your joints or compromise your spine.
Why Live Guidance Matters
Our sessions are not pre-recorded videos that you simply follow. We utilize a two-way video format, which allows me to see you and provide verbal corrections in real-time. This is essential for:
- Safety: Preventing injury by correcting your form before it becomes a habit.
- Adaptation: Modifying a posture if you have back pain, high blood pressure, or limited range of motion.
- Consistency: Building a routine that lasts.
How to Use This Library
Use these images to familiarize yourself with the foundational shapes. Pay attention to the 'Asana for' points listed with each pose—these are the specific therapeutic targets, whether it is increasing lung capacity, stimulating the third eye chakra, or improving spinal health.
If you find a pose that addresses your specific need, the next step is to learn the breathing (Pranayama) that accompanies it. We focus heavily on the mind-body connection, teaching you to link your breath to your movement. If you are ready to move beyond photos and into a practice that truly heals, I invite you to join our live interactive batches.
