Finding Balance: Stability, Focus, and Strength
Balance is not just about standing on one leg. It is a state of mind we cultivate on the mat to help us remain steady when life outside feels chaotic.
Finding my balance with Natarajasana (Dancer's Pose) by a waterfall. Practicing on uneven, natural surfaces adds an extra challenge and deepens your connection to the earth.
The beauty you see in me is a reflection of you. A Dancer's Pose at the water's edge, playing with the reflection and the balance between effort and ease.
A reflection of Dancer's Pose against the setting sun. This pose builds strength in the standing leg and core while opening the heart.
Where light meets dark, magic happens. A silhouette of Tree Pose (Vrksasana) against a stunning sunset, a pose that improves balance and grounds your energy.
Dancing with the shadows in Tree Pose. This foundational balancing pose teaches us to stand tall and steady, like a tree, even when the ground feels shaky.
A balance pose flow, moving into a standing leg extension. This sequence challenges your stability and focus, and the playful ending with my dog reminds us not to take our practice too seriously.
Discipline is self-love. This video shows the focus required for a one-legged chair pose, a variation that deeply challenges the strength and stability of the standing leg.
A standing split variation (Urdhva Prasarita Eka Padasana) in a beautiful natural archway. This pose requires both flexibility in the hamstrings and strength in the standing leg.
Yoga happens beyond the mat. A variation of Tiger Pose, this kneeling balance pose strengthens the core and back while stretching the front of the body.
Warrior I (Virabhadrasana I) practiced in the forest. While a foundational pose, it is also a balance challenge that builds strength and confidence.
About Finding Balance
Balance is rarely about standing perfectly still; it is about how you manage the wobble. In my sessions, we treat every fall from a pose as a moment to breathe and reset, helping you build the mental resilience to handle life’s daily stresses with the same calm you find on the mat.
When we practice balancing poses like Natarajasana (Dancer's Pose) or Vrksasana (Tree Pose), we are doing much more than just strengthening the ankles and core. We are training the nervous system to remain steady amidst distraction. Many students come to me worried about being 'stiff' or 'uncoordinated,' but the beauty of balance work is that it meets you exactly where you are.
In my live Zoom sessions, we focus on the interplay between effort and ease. We don't obsess over the 'perfect' aesthetic form. Instead, we use props like blocks and straps to make these challenging poses accessible, ensuring you build stability without strain. Whether you are practicing in a dedicated studio space or a small corner of your living room, these flows are designed to ground your energy and improve your posture.
If you are struggling with a specific transition or need detailed feedback on your alignment, I also offer 1-on-1 private sessions. We can work through your specific mobility roadblocks, whether it is tight hips from long desk hours or the desire to finally nail that arm balance. Come as you are, and let’s find your flow.
