Our Teaching Philosophy in Action: Learning Through Play
We believe learning happens best when it is fun. Here is how we combine drama, play, and speech therapy to help your child find their voice.
We firmly believe that children learn best when they are playing. This photo captures a moment from our "Young Chefs" theme, where students use toy food and pans to learn new vocabulary, practice sequencing, and develop conversational skills.
We are always reflecting on our methods to better serve our students. Based on our experiences, we are increasing our focus on foundational reading and dedicated one-on-one work to ensure every learner gets the personalized support they need to succeed.
About Our Teaching Philosophy in Action
In our 'Young Chefs' sessions, for instance, we use toy food and kitchen props to teach sequencing and vocabulary. This play-based approach lets children practice social interaction without the pressure of a traditional classroom, making the learning process feel like a game rather than a lesson.
Reflecting and Growing
We are not a static academy. We constantly adjust our curriculum based on what works for our students in real time. Based on our observations in 2024, we have shifted our focus for the upcoming term to prioritize foundational reading skills and increased one-on-one attention for every learner. We believe this personalized level of care ensures that no child falls through the cracks.
The Intersection of Play and Therapy
My background in drama informs everything we do, even in our speech therapy sessions. By using props, costumes, and movement, we lower the barrier for children who might otherwise be anxious about speaking or performing. Whether we are preparing students for Trinity College London exams or working on articulation correction, we use this 'messy, magical' environment to keep engagement high.
Why This Matters
When a shy child uses a shadow puppet to deliver a line, they forget they are 'working' on their phonology and instead focus on the story. That is when real confidence is built. We treat our classroom as a laboratory where we try new things, learn, and grow alongside our students. If you have questions about how our methods can support your child’s specific communication development, let us chat.
