Foundations in Reading and Vocabulary Classes
We move beyond textbooks to make reading a tactile adventure. Our game-based approach helps kids build vocabulary and sentence structure through play.
From single words to full sentences. In this activity, our students use large-print word cards to construct their own sentences, helping them understand grammar and syntax in a tangible, hands-on way.
We get our students moving to make learning stick. This floor game uses sight word cutouts to create a "pizza," encouraging kids to read, identify words, and even create funny sentences, all while actively participating.
We use a variety of specialized tools to encourage expression. These 'Chit Chat Cubes' are a fantastic resource we use in our sessions to act as conversation starters, helping children learn to express their thoughts, feelings, and ideas.
About Foundations in Reading & Vocabulary
Instead of static worksheets, we teach children how to build sentences by physically handling word cards and interacting with props. Whether we are using floor games to create 'pizza' out of sight words or rolling dice to spark a conversation, the goal is to make grammar and syntax tangible so your child feels the logic behind language before they ever have to write it down.
At Yellow Brick Way, we believe the best way to teach reading is by getting your hands dirty. After 15 years in education, I have learned that children rarely engage with abstract concepts when they are sitting still at a desk.
Our Approach to Literacy
We combine traditional phonics with active, sensory-based learning. In our sessions, your child isn't just memorizing definitions; they are using 'Chit Chat Cubes' to build narratives, arranging large-print word cards to construct sentences, and playing games that force them to identify, read, and use vocabulary in real-time.
Why This Works
- Kinesthetic Learning: By moving around the classroom to complete reading tasks, children anchor vocabulary in physical memory.
- Confidence Through Play: When reading becomes a game—like our floor-based sight word activities—the pressure to 'get it right' vanishes, and the willingness to try increases.
- Practical Skills: We focus on foundational reading comprehension, syntax, and expressive vocabulary that applies to school and beyond.
Where We Teach
We offer these sessions at our centres in Juhu, Mumbai, and Vapi, Gujarat. Whether your child is struggling with basic reading or just needs a more creative outlet to expand their vocabulary, our small groups and one-on-one sessions are designed to meet them exactly where they are. We do not just teach reading; we teach children to enjoy the process of communication.
