Design is the silent coach in every workout. I craft fitness environments where layout, lighting, and material durability are engineered to drive performance and motivation.

The group exercise studio at DLF Thrive in Chennai. The design features high-contrast yellow geometric patterns and dynamic overhead lighting on a wood-finish floor, creating a vibrant and motivating space for classes.

The cardio zone at the 8000 sq ft DLF Thrive Gym. An exposed ceiling with bright yellow ductwork and angular light fixtures creates an industrial yet energetic vibe, driving movement and performance.

For Thrive DLF, lighting was a key strategy. This video shows how programmable, color-changing lights transform the functional training zone, shaping mood, movement, and motivation throughout a workout session.

A collage showcasing the DLF Thrive fitness center in Chennai. The design is a bold spatial experience, combining dynamic geometry, high-impact lighting, and an electric color palette to inspire performance.

The reception area at a DLF Thrive gym, featuring a dramatic red corrugated wall and a custom 'noodle' light installation. The angular black desk and neon branding create a powerful first impression.

The cardio section is defined by bold red and white graphics on the walls, which visually guide users through the space. The open layout and large windows provide ample natural light for a more pleasant workout.

The free weights and strength training area is designed with a raw, industrial aesthetic. The grey flooring and exposed ceiling are punctuated by vibrant red walls, creating a focused and intense workout environment.

About this collection

True gym design goes beyond paint and mirrors. It is about acoustic control, intuitive flow between zones, and how we manage infrastructure like exposed HVAC systems to ensure your space feels industrial and raw without sacrificing the comfort needed for a high-intensity workout.

When I approach a wellness space, I strip away the excess to focus on what drives movement. Take the DLF Thrive project in Chennai. The design was not about choosing a color palette; it was about using vibrant yellow accents to pay homage to the local spirit while deploying geometric lighting to subconsciously guide users through cardio, strength, and functional areas.

Fitness architecture requires a rigid attention to technical detail that residential projects often overlook. We specify heavy-duty materials—industrial-grade rubber flooring, sweat-resistant upholstery, and acoustic baffles—to handle the physical demands of a gym. If you do not plan for the 'wet' areas or the noise of dropped weights during the design phase, no amount of aesthetic styling will save the user experience.

My process for these spaces involves:

  • Strategic Zoning: Clearly separating cardio, free weights, and group studios to prevent overcrowding and ensure member safety.
  • Dynamic Lighting Grids: Using lighting to dictate the tempo of a workout session, shifting energy levels from the locker room to the training floor.
  • Infrastructure Integration: Designing exposed ceilings and ductwork that look deliberate rather than accidental.

If you are planning a fitness facility, the layout is your most important tool for member retention. Let us discuss how we can map your space for performance.

I am Kunal. My approach to fitness architecture is simple: if the design does not motivate the user, it is not working. I focus on technical zoning and immersive lighting to build spaces that perform as well as the people using them.
