Inside Our 7-Acre Sanctuary
Managing a sanctuary for 1800+ dogs isn't just about love. It requires rigorous, relentless infrastructure. From customized housing to a full-scale trauma hospital, this is how we maintain a safe, dignified life for dogs no one else would take.
This is a look at our old mesh kennels before their upgrade. We are constantly working to improve our infrastructure to provide the best possible living conditions for our dogs.
The upgraded kennels are now fully cemented, providing better hygiene and separation. Each kennel is 35 sq. ft., giving each dog a private and clean space.
The newly painted and finished kennels. These upgrades ensure our dogs live with dignity and comfort, and that our facilities can be washed down and sanitized effectively every day.
The beginning of a new mural at the sanctuary. The outline of Kavya, the dog who started it all, is sketched onto a freshly painted yellow wall.
An artist consults his reference photo as he begins to sketch the large mural. This wall is being transformed into a symbol of the love that defines VOSD.
The artist brings the mural to life with vibrant colors. This painting of our founding dog, Kavya, is becoming the new heart of our visual identity at the sanctuary.

A violent storm recently caused severe damage to our sanctuary, destroying roofs and crushing our ambulances. This is a huge setback, as it compromises our ability to provide shelter and medical care. We are in urgent need of support to rebuild.
About Our Sanctuary: Infrastructure & Operations
We recently completed a major infrastructure upgrade, replacing old mesh kennels with 35 sq. ft. cemented enclosures for every resident. This ensures each dog has a dry, hygienic, and private space—a small but non-negotiable change that makes a massive difference in preventing disease and ensuring comfort for the 1800+ dogs in our care.
Beyond the Basics: A 7-Acre Facility
Running a no-kill sanctuary at this scale is an industrial-level operation. We do not operate as a kennel or a temporary pitstop. Every corner of our 7-acre space is designed for long-term residency.
Hygiene and Housing
With 1800+ residents, sanitation is the difference between life and death. Our new cemented kennels are designed for daily high-pressure wash-downs. By moving away from mesh, we eliminate rust, trap less dirt, and give dogs a solid, secure platform to rest on. We prioritize:
- Individual Space: 35 sq. ft. private kennels for every dog.
- Pack Safety: Separation for dogs with behavioral trauma, while allowing managed socialization in our 3 designated park areas.
- Sterilization: 100% of our dogs are sterilized. This is mandatory to maintain peace, prevent infighting, and ensure we can accommodate new rescues safely.
Medical Infrastructure
Our sanctuary functions as a hospital as much as it does a home. We maintain an on-site trauma center because many of our dogs arrive as accident survivors or victims of abuse. The facility is equipped with:
- X-Ray and Ultrasound units for diagnostics.
- A dedicated surgical suite for emergency and routine procedures.
- Specialized hospice care zones for our senior and geriatric residents.
Logistical Reality
We prepare 3 tons of food daily in an industrial kitchen, following strict dietary protocols. This is a perpetual loop of cleaning, feeding, and treating. Our infrastructure is constantly under pressure from the elements, as seen during storm damage, which is why we rely on community support to rebuild and maintain these standards. When you visit or support VOSD, you are seeing a facility built purely for the survival and comfort of dogs who had nowhere else to go.
