A visual journey through my work, blending traditional Kerala architecture with modern functionality. Explore how I translate heritage elements into spaces that feel like home.

This is the heart of Kuttiyil House, where I designed a central courtyard that brings light, air, and nature into the home. It’s a modern interpretation of a traditional Kerala nadumuttam, featuring a stone feature wall, classic swing, and patterned flooring that together create a sanctuary of antique elegance and calm.

Witness the complete transformation of Sa Sha Villa in Kannur. This video shows how I took an existing structure and reimagined it into a contemporary residence, focusing on improving natural light, creating functional spaces like this study nook under the stairs, and upgrading the entire aesthetic from the exterior facade to the interior finishes.

For the Sitaram Ayurvedic Resort in Natika, I designed this common area to feel both expansive and intimate. The design uses a traditional timber-framed roof with terracotta tiles, a central wooden swing (oonjal), and an open layout to create a serene, welcoming space that reflects the principles of Ayurveda and Keralan heritage.

In this walkthrough of Kuttiyil House, I explain my design philosophy firsthand. I discuss how I divide spaces, integrate nature through courtyards and large windows, and use traditional materials like laterite stone to create a home that is both timeless and deeply connected to its surroundings.

This is a preview of my design for Restaurant Chef Pillai in Calicut, a project where we adapted a heritage building. The concept blends vintage charm with the functional needs of a fine dining establishment, featuring an elegant interior with dark wood beams, traditional seating, and a facade that honors the building's history.

In this bedroom at Kuttiyil House, I designed a direct connection to a private courtyard. The four-poster bed adds a touch of classic elegance, while the large glass doors and the view of the laterite jali wall and greenery blur the line between indoors and outdoors, creating a peaceful personal retreat.

About this collection

When I design a home, I look for the nadumuttam, or central courtyard, potential even in modern apartments. It is not just an aesthetic choice; it is a functional solution for natural light and cross-ventilation in our tropical climate, which helps keep indoor temperatures comfortable while connecting your living space to nature.

My design philosophy is rooted in a simple question: How can we give history a future? Whether I am restoring an ancestral home in Kannur or designing a new commercial space in Bangalore, the goal is to create environments that are both grounded in tradition and relevant to modern life.

Why Materials Matter

I avoid synthetic finishes that hide the character of a structure. Instead, I rely on honest, tactile materials like laterite stone, reclaimed wood, and terracotta tiles. These materials do not just age well; they develop a patina that adds personality to your home over time.

The Adaptive Reuse Approach

Many of my projects involve adaptive reuse—taking an existing, often neglected space and breathing new life into it. This process requires a delicate balance. I carefully audit the structural integrity, preserving the vintage charm while upgrading the electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems to meet contemporary standards. This ensures you get the soul of a heritage building with the ease of a modern residence.

Design for All Regions

While my roots are in Kerala, my work travels. From navigating the specific climate needs of coastal Calicut to addressing the spatial constraints of urban Bangalore, I adapt my techniques to the environment. The result is always a home that feels like it belongs in its setting, rather than one imposed upon it.

How We Work

  • Consultation: We discuss your lifestyle and the story you want your space to tell.
  • Design Strategy: We develop a plan that integrates natural ventilation, light, and traditional spatial flow.
  • Execution: My team handles everything from structural audits to final interior finishes, ensuring the vision remains consistent from the first sketch to the final handover.
