About Beyond Salsa & Bachata
I don't teach by counting '1, 2, 3.' Instead, we break down complex Rumba and Son rhythms using vocal cues like 'unka chaka.' It sounds a bit silly, but it works—it helps your body actually feel the music rather than just memorizing a sequence.
If you have the basics of Salsa and Bachata down, it is time to add some flavor. Dancing to Son Cubano or Rumba isn't just about learning new moves; it is about understanding the history and the specific instruments—the Clave, the Congas, the bells—that drive the music.
In our HSR, Indiranagar, and Sanjaynagar studios, we treat these styles as a playground. We do not focus on rigid aesthetics or perfect lines. We focus on movement: how to use your hips, how to isolate your torso, and how to stay loose while keeping your frame.
Whether it is a high-energy Mambo workshop or a grounding Rumba session, the goal is the same: you should be able to hear the difference in the music and know how to react to it. This is how you stop being a step-counter and start being a dancer who can actually improvise when the DJ plays something unexpected.
You do not need to be a pro to join these sessions. Most of my students start with just a passion for the music and end up finding a whole new layer of confidence. Come through, get a bit sweaty, and let us explore these roots together.
