Fashion Styling and Creative Direction by Varunesh Pal
Every visual story begins with a single line. From pencil sketches at the College of Art, Delhi to editorial campaigns in Mumbai, my work bridges the gap between raw imagination and finished fashion narrative.
A pencil sketch of a male torso from my early archives. This drawing was one of my first attempts at studying anatomy and form, the foundational skills that I still use in my styling work today.
An early life drawing of a female figure, exploring curves and expression. These sketches were my first steps in understanding how to capture emotion and personality through visual art.
A study of the male form from behind, sketched from my college days. This practice in capturing anatomy and muscle definition was crucial in developing my eye for silhouette and posture.
A sketch of a seated female figure in a moment of quiet contemplation. These early drawings were not just about anatomy, but about trying to capture a mood and a story within a single pose.
Another of my early anatomical sketches, focusing on the structure of the male chest and shoulders. These foundational studies helped me build an understanding of the body as a canvas.
A pencil drawing of a figure in a curled, expressive pose. This sketch was an exploration of how the body can create powerful shapes and convey deep emotion, a theme I continue to explore in my work.
A quick sketch I made on set, capturing the collaborative energy of a shoot. This drawing shows the team gathered around the monitor, a moment that represents the teamwork behind every final image.
About this collection
Before the lights and the camera, every look starts on paper. My process is rooted in these early anatomical studies, which taught me to understand posture, form, and movement. This technical background allows me to select and manipulate garments that do not just sit on a model, but actually live and breathe in front of the lens.
Fashion styling is not merely about sourcing clothes. It is about building a mood. When you look at my early sketches from my time at the College of Art, Delhi, you see the foundation of my current practice. I treat every editorial campaign or film project as an extension of those initial drawings.
Whether we are working on a high-fashion editorial for a magazine like Filmfare or designing costumes for a film, the objective remains the same: storytelling. I prioritize the relationship between the clothing and the body. If the silhouette does not serve the narrative, we change it.
My approach in Mumbai involves deep collaboration with photographers, makeup artists, and directors. I handle the logistics, from mood board conceptualization to the final on-set execution, ensuring that the visual story we create is cohesive. If you are looking for styling that goes beyond the surface and speaks to a specific aesthetic, I am ready to collaborate.
Varunesh Pal
I view fashion as a visual language rather than a simple collection of clothes. Whether I am building a character for film or directing a high-fashion editorial, I rely on the fundamental understanding of the human form I developed sixteen years ago. I am here to help you translate your vision into an authentic visual story.
