I turn your photographs into lasting art on bone china. These custom painted plates are decorative, glossy, and unlike anything you will find in a standard frame.

A close-up of the ceramic plate portrait of celebrity journalist Vir Sanghvi. Painting on this smooth, non-porous surface is a different challenge, but the result is a vibrant, glossy finish that is truly unique. This was part of a special commission for ITC Gardenia.

The companion piece, a ceramic plate portrait of author and journalist Seema Goswami. The colors are vivid and the details are sharp, creating a beautiful and unconventional piece of art that can be displayed on an easel.

About Unique Keepsakes: Portraits on Ceramic Plates

Painting on a non-porous surface like bone china requires a different approach than canvas. I use professional ceramic paints that cure to a glossy, durable finish. While these pieces are strictly for display—they are not food-safe or dishwasher-proof—they make for a standout conversation piece on any mantel or wall.

Painting on bone china is a delicate balance. Unlike paper or canvas, the paint sits on top of the glaze, which creates a rich effect with subtle brush strokes that light catches beautifully. I use professional ceramic paints to ensure the colors stay vibrant and bond to the porcelain surface.

Because this is a specialized medium, the process is slightly different from my pencil or acrylic work. I need a clear, high-resolution photo to work from, as the glaze reflects light differently than matte paper. Once finished, I seal the artwork to keep the finish glossy and protected.

These plates are designed purely for decor. Whether you place them on a mantel, hang them on a wall using a plate hook, or display them on an easel, they bring a different kind of warmth to a room than a standard framed photo. If you are looking for a commemorative piece for an anniversary, a tribute, or just a unique addition to your home, this is a great option. I ship these safely across India from my studio in Bangalore, packed securely to prevent any damage during transit.

Hi, I am Varun. I am an engineer by day and an artist by heart. I love experimenting with new mediums, and painting portraits on ceramic plates is one of my favorite challenges because of the unique texture and glossy finish it leaves behind.
