Hand-Painted Custom Watercolor Portraits
I transform your cherished photos into original, vibrant watercolor memories on archival-quality cotton paper, capturing the emotion that a photograph often misses.
This watercolor portrait, titled 'Yadon ka Thaila' (A Bag of Memories), aims to capture a lifetime of stories in a single expression. I use layers of transparent color to build depth and character, creating an emotional gift painting.
The completed watercolor portrait of a sadhu from my Bangalore workshop. The vibrant oranges and yellows of his attire contrast with the cool, muted background, drawing focus to his calm and dignified presence.
A custom watercolor portrait capturing the quiet dignity of a man from Himachal. I focused on the details of his face and traditional cap to create a piece that feels both personal and culturally rich.
This expressive watercolor portrait was created during an online class demonstration. I used a limited color palette to focus on the subject's features and the play of light and shadow on his face.
A smiling face can light up a painting. For this custom watercolor portrait, I used warm tones and soft edges to capture the subject's joyful expression and the texture of his beard and scarf.
This process video shows the careful layering of watercolor to build up skin tones and capture the form of a human figure. Each brushstroke adds to the realism of this portrait of a man on his bicycle.
Watch as I paint a portrait of an elderly man in a pink turban. This video demonstrates my technique for rendering the textures of the fabric and the gentle expression on his face using watercolor.
A monochrome watercolor portrait allows me to focus purely on value and form. This demonstration shows how I use a single color, in this case red, to create a powerful and artistic portrait.
A watercolor figure study of a woman, painted from the side. This piece was a demonstration for my online class, focusing on capturing posture and the flow of the saree.
The back view of a figure can tell its own story. In this watercolor painting, I was fascinated by the intricate patterns of the saree and the flowers in her hair, using rich blues and golds.
About Custom Watercolor Portraits
When you commission a portrait from me, I don't just copy a photograph. I work on 300 GSM 100% cotton cold-press paper, focusing on the subtle light and shadow that gives a painting its life. Because I use artist-grade, lightfast pigments and traditional wet-on-wet glazing techniques, every piece is designed to be a durable heirloom, not just a quick sketch.
Art is often treated as a commodity, but for me, it remains a way to connect. Whether it is a portrait of a loved one or a significant life moment, I approach every commission with the same dedication I bring to my gallery work.
The Process When you share a reference photo, I look for the narrative. I strip away the visual clutter—wires, trash, or distracting backgrounds—to ensure the focus remains entirely on the subject. My goal is to capture the expression and the personality, whether it is the dignity in a subject’s gaze or the joy in a smile.
Technical Integrity I am stubborn about quality because I believe art should last.
- Medium: I use professional-grade, lightfast pigments that won't fade over time.
- Surface: I exclusively use 300 GSM cold-press paper (Arches or Fabriano grade), which provides the texture necessary for heavy watercolor washes without buckling.
- Protection: Once the painting is finished, I interleave it with acid-free butter paper and ship it in a rigid, crush-proof cylinder.
Getting Started Commissioning a piece is simple. Share your idea or memory with me, and we will discuss the orientation and composition that best fits your space. I provide work-in-progress updates during the sketching phase so you feel connected to the creation from the very beginning. Every piece is hand-signed, ensuring authenticity and a direct connection between the artist and the owner.
