From our first international tour in 2006 to our daily classes in Thane, see the moments and milestones that define our karate family.

This video captures the spirit of the United Budokan Karate Academy. Witness the intensity of competitive kumite, the focus of our judges, the support of the crowd, and the pure joy of our team celebrating victory together as a family.

We are immensely proud to represent India on the world stage. This is our team at the 24th FSKA World Cup Karate Championship 2024 in Goa, celebrating a significant medal haul against competitors from over 25 countries.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Here, our youngest karateka practice their foundational stances and kata forms in a group class, building discipline, focus, and strength from an early age.

We celebrate success at every level. Here are our Grand Championship winners from the 10th United Cup 2024, proudly displaying their trophies. This represents the pinnacle of achievement in both Kata and Kumite for our senior athletes.

Our dojo has no walls. This collage showcases the winners of our United Cup 2020 Online Kata Championship, proving that high-quality karate training and competition can thrive in a virtual environment, connecting students from around the world.

Progression is a core part of the karate journey. A proud moment as one of our youngest students receives her certificate and new belt during a grading examination, marking a successful step forward in her martial arts development.

Our legacy of international competition began with our first tour to Malaysia in 2006. This photograph marks the start of a long history of representing India and securing medals on the global stage, a tradition we proudly continue today.

About this collection

Whether you are stepping onto the mats for the first time or training to compete on the national stage, our approach is rooted in the official Karate Budokan International curriculum. We operate out of community centers across the Mumbai Metropolitan Area, focusing on consistent, structured training that builds technical discipline alongside physical strength for all ages.

At United Budokan Karate Academy, our mission has remained consistent since we opened our doors in 1989: to guide students from beginner white belts to confident black belts. With over 400 black belts trained and more than 100 international medals to our name, we prioritize a curriculum that emphasizes form (Kata) and technique (Kumite) as outlined by Karate Budokan International.

Our classes are conducted in community halls like Shehanai Hall and Orkid Academy, using standard non-slip EVA mats to ensure a safe training environment. This group-format setting, with 20 to 30 students per class, allows us to maintain the camaraderie that defines our academy. We welcome kids, teens, and adults, ensuring that every student receives the focus they need to master their stances and sparring strategies.

Beyond regular training, we host the annual United Cup, which serves as a platform for our students to test their skills in a competitive environment. We also maintain a rigorous schedule of belt examinations to track progress. For students who cannot attend in-person sessions at our Thane or Navi Mumbai dojos, we have developed effective online training modules that keep our global community connected. Whether you are looking for self-defense skills or competitive coaching, you will find a dedicated group of instructors and peers here to support your journey.

I am Santosh J Chawan, and I have led UBKA in Thane since 1989. To me, this academy is more than a place to learn martial arts; it is a family where we support every student from their first class to their black belt examination.
