Fitness is the foundation of a champion. At my Kharghar academy, we do not just play—we train for speed, agility, and stamina. If you want to compete at the next level, this is where we start.

Fitness is not optional here. This is a glimpse of our agility and reflex training using light-based reaction drills. Quick feet and a sharp mind are essential for high-level table tennis, and we build that right here in the academy.

We strive for progress, not perfection. This video shows a conditioning circuit with hurdles, rings, and cones to improve footwork, speed, and agility. This kind of training is vital for any serious athlete.

Fitness training on the sand at Neem Ka Thana in Rajasthan. Sand training is excellent for building leg strength, endurance, and explosive power without putting heavy stress on the joints.

Strength training with a 4kg medicine ball during a camp at SKM TT Academy. These exercises build core strength and rotational power, which are critical for powerful topspin shots.

Using resistance bands to improve lateral movement and stability. This simple but effective drill strengthens the muscles needed for quick side-to-side footwork around the table.

Recovery is a very important part of training for athletes. We use swimming sessions to help muscles recover, reduce soreness, and maintain cardiovascular fitness without impact.

We never miss our morning fitness session. Here I am at the stadium for track work. A disciplined routine is the only way to build the stamina required for long tournaments.

About The Grind: Fitness and Conditioning

You won't find fancy gym machines gathering dust here. My fitness regime is brutal but honest: sand training for leg strength, reaction pods for lightning reflexes, and swimming for recovery. It is hard work, but if you want to match the speed of professional table tennis, you need this physical foundation before you even touch a racket.

Most people think table tennis is just about hand-eye coordination. They are wrong. It is a game of explosive movement and endurance. At my academy in Kharghar, fitness is non-negotiable.

The Training

We run circuit training—hurdles, ladders, and cones—to build the kind of lateral speed you need to chase down a topspin shot. When we do sand training at Neem Ka Thana, it is not for show. It builds explosive power in your calves and thighs without destroying your joints. That is the secret to playing three hours of intense matches without cramping.

Why Conditioning Matters

I use light-sensor pods to train your reaction time because the ball moves too fast for you to think. You need to react. We also use medicine balls to build the core stability required for powerful loops and the 'Banana Flick'. These are not optional exercises; they are the tools I use to turn students into competitive athletes.

Recovery is Part of the Work

I don't just push you; I teach you how to recover. Swimming is part of our routine because it flushes out lactic acid, reduces soreness, and keeps your heart rate stable. If you are serious about competing, you have to be ready to sweat as much in the gym as you do at the table.
