On-Court Table Tennis Coaching and Technique
From mastering basic grip and stance to executing powerful topspin loops, my on-court training focuses on building reflexes and match-ready technique. I am on the table with you, every step of the way.
This is how I coach, right there with my players. You can hear me instructing, "Kachhe eshe dure jaa. Kachhe on the bounce ne." It means come close, then go far, take it on the bounce. We work on footwork and positioning until it becomes second nature.
On-site coaching during a warm-up session at the WTT Feeder event in Doha. I travel with my players to provide support and tactical advice right before their matches.
Here I am demonstrating the power topspin technique. Generating heavy spin with speed requires precise body mechanics, from the legs up through the core and arm.
I still practice what I preach. Here I am doing some shadow practice to maintain my own form and footwork. A coach must lead by example.
A multi-ball training session in progress at my academy. This type of drill is one of the best ways to improve reflexes, consistency, and footwork patterns under high intensity.
Another multi-ball drill, this time focusing on the transition between forehand and backhand strokes. I feed the balls to different locations to simulate real match situations.
A player practicing his forehand loop against a feeder. Repetition is the mother of skill. We do thousands of these to build muscle memory and a reliable attacking shot.
A backhand practice session at the academy. Developing a strong and consistent backhand is crucial for a complete all-round game in modern table tennis.
A glimpse from a summer camp at Neem Ka Thana in Jaipur. I conduct camps across the country to work with young and upcoming players, focusing on fundamental skills.
An advanced camp in session at SKM Academy in Rajasthan. Here, we are working on more complex drills and match-play scenarios with experienced players.
About On-Court Coaching and Technique
When we are on the table, you will hear me saying, 'Kachhe eshe dure jaa' (come close, then go far). I do not just tell you what to do, I feed the balls myself. Whether it is a multi-ball drill to sharpen your reflexes or fixing your footwork, I am right there with you. This is not about theory, it is about getting the technique into your muscle memory through constant, high-intensity repetition.
My Coaching Philosophy
I believe in progress, not perfection. Whether you are picking up a racket for the first time or looking to sharpen your match tactics, my role is to give you the technical foundation to succeed. We train on professional ITTF-approved Stag and Tibhar tables, using high-quality synthetic mats to ensure safety and proper grip.
What We Work On
- The Basics: We start with the grip—shakehand or penhold—and your stance. If your foundation is weak, your game will crumble under pressure.
- Multi-Ball Drills: This is the core of my method. I feed hundreds of balls to build your muscle memory. We practice forehand-backhand transitions until your movement becomes automatic.
- Advanced Technique: For competitive players, we focus on generating power and spin. We work on the 'Banana Flick', power topspins, and tactical placement.
- Fitness Integration: You cannot play at the top level without fitness. We incorporate agility drills and reaction training pods to keep you fast on your feet.
Where We Train
My academy in Kharghar is fully equipped for serious training. I also travel for camps to work with players across different states, including Jaipur and Ahmedabad, to share these techniques. If you join my group sessions or a private 1-on-1 strategy session, expect strict discipline. I am a hands-on coach, and I expect total dedication on the court.
Sandeep Ghosh
I am Sandeep Ghosh, and for me, table tennis is a lifetime commitment. My daughter Swastika and my students at my Kharghar academy learn that greatness is built on the table through discipline, not just talent. If you are ready to work hard, I am ready to coach you.
