The Fluted House: Modern 3BHK Minimalist Interior Design
See how we turned a standard 3BHK apartment into a minimalist sanctuary using fluted teak wood to hide doors and create seamless, textured surfaces.
Here, the fluted teakwood wall appears as a seamless, textured surface. This detail is central to the home's design, adding visual interest while cleverly hiding a jib door to maintain a minimalist aesthetic.
The concealed door within the fluted wall opens, revealing the passage to the private areas of the home. This element of surprise is a key part of my philosophy of creating complex spaces from simple floor plates.
In the parent's bedroom, a punch of olive green on the wardrobes and headboard creates a calming, nature-inspired atmosphere. A large, custom-shaped mirror was used to visually expand the compact room and enhance the sense of space.
The master bedroom was designed as a serene, all-white sanctuary, a specific request from the clients. The space is filled with natural light, and the clean lines of the furniture and panelled headboard create a sophisticated and restful environment.
A closer look at the master bedroom's white satin finish cabinets, detailed with subtle brushed brass strips. This small detail adds a touch of elegance and luxury, elevating the minimalist design of the wardrobe.
This shot captures the dynamic feel of the kid's bedroom, where a teal accent extends from the wall to the floor. The motion blur adds a sense of life and playfulness to this contemporary, superhero-themed space.
A full view of the kid's room, showcasing the functional layout with an integrated study desk and ample storage. The color blocking with teal and grey provides a modern, youthful vibe that can easily adapt as the child grows.
Detail of the dual-tone kitchen, showing the seamless integration of appliances and storage solutions. Wicker baskets for vegetables and a dedicated spice rack are examples of how I prioritize practical, clutter-free kitchen design.
This perspective of the living room shows the sunken seating area and the interplay of different textures and colors. The design uses a metal partition to create a visual barrier to the dining area without closing off the space.
Another view of the living area, highlighting the combination of a plush sofa, a patterned wingback chair, and the warm fluted wood wall. The lighting is designed to be functional and create a warm, inviting ambiance.
About The Fluted House: A Study in Modern Minimalism
The star of this home is the fluted teakwood wall in the living area. It is not just for looks; it cleverly disguises the entry to the private living quarters. We designed it as a seamless, textured surface that keeps the focus on clean lines while hiding the door completely—a trick we use to keep spaces looking clutter-free without sacrificing flow.
A Minimalist Approach to 3BHK Living
This project proves that you do not need a massive footprint to create a home that feels open and intentional. We focused on the concept of 'simple floor plates but complex spaces,' using clever architectural tricks to maximize every square foot.
The Living Area
Beyond the fluted teakwood feature wall, we separated the dining and living zones with a sleek metal partition. This defines the space without blocking light or sightlines. It creates a visual barrier that feels light, not heavy, and keeps the open-plan layout functional.
Bedroom Sanctuaries
Each room serves a different purpose:
- Master Suite: The clients requested a serene white palette. We used satin-finish cabinets detailed with brushed brass strips and a panelled headboard to keep it sophisticated, not sterile.
- Parent’s Room: To make this compact room feel larger, we installed a full-height mirror. An olive green tone on the wardrobes provides a calming, nature-inspired pop of color.
- Kid's Room: We kept the superhero theme subtle. The teal and grey color blocking makes the space youthful now, but it is designed to be easily updated as the child grows.
Practicality in the Kitchen
We prioritized clutter-free surfaces. By integrating appliances and using wicker storage baskets within the cabinetry, we ensured that the kitchen remains functional and easy to maintain. Every choice—from the materials to the lighting—was made to ensure this 3BHK remains a comfortable, living space, not just a display home.
Travis Designs
I am obsessed with the balance between clean lines and raw materials. For me, design is about listening to your needs and stripping away the excess so the space can breathe. I want to build you a home that feels like it has been crafted over years, not installed in a week.
